Hello fellas  wave 

Again , another reject thread but I don't do this often and I'd like some clarity on these:

First off...What kind of standars are set out for tail shots for this site these days? Can anyone help me? I always seem to get badmotiv. These two in particular:


I'd just like the know what the badmotiv about them is so I can eliminate it the next time I take a tail closeup.


Now , I have always wondered if the screeners reject a picture due to the horizon being level or if backround poles aren't level. Especially here , where the platform the plane is on is crooked compared to the poles/hangar in the backround. Some help here would be appreciated since I really like this shot.

Lastly , I uploaded this:

I knew when I uploaded this it had a very good chance of getting badmotiv. In fact , it got badcategory. I don't think I am going to reupload since that may be a waste of time for screeners and other photographers. Anyways , I'd like your opinions on how I can improve a shot like this.

On -nra you cut the right side off and still have plenty space on the left..

The Metroliner is tilted. Check the verticals.

About Tails can't give you a hint but about the Badangle one is definitely unleveled to the right. Lightpoles are tricky but rwy are worse and the building is not level....

Hello Zak,

My thoughts on those 2 pictures in particular:

With the - TGL tail shot, I think that the photo could be improved by moving the tail slightly up in the frame. At the moment the bottom of the fuselage is cut off by the crop, whereas there is quite a lot of sky above the top of the tail fin. I think this can make the photo look a bit imbalanced and not centred effectively. Although I know some can feel that the rule for centring the subject can be too rigid, I think the picture would look better if there was a bit of space underneath the fuselage, which was roughly equal to the sky above the top of the tail fin. I also think a problem may be that the engine nacelle is cropped in half. But this may be less of an issue. Then there is the issue of level - those background pylons suggest the overall photo needs a CCW rotation.

On the 3D-MRR photo - I like the effect you are going for there with the aircraft silhouetted. Unfortunately the plane in front and the one behind spoil the motive, getting in the way of having the DC-10 as your subject. As a result I think that makes the photo look rather cluttered. Also, taking a general look at that photo, it is biased very much to the left, so there are lots of bits of aeroplane in the left half of the photo and mainly sky in the right. I think this leads to the photo having an imbalanced look.

For me on the ZS-BPU, I would focus on that background hangar, which clearly needs a CCW rotation to get level. Then I don't think it would matter if the plane itself looked slightly unlevel.

This sounds like a lot of critical comments, I know, but I hope that they are of some constructive use to you.
