HI folks

Few days ago I decided to try to take some pictures on approach + take off at prestwick.
I did manage to snap off a few pictures but most have the lovely 'razor wire and fence' in the shots.

Was wondering if anyone had any good places around Prestwick where they take pictures?

Also any good places at glasgow?

Cheers
David

Sorry David,
I meant to reply to you the other day but it slipped my memory!

Prestwick is pretty good and accesible both by train and car. There is a banking alongside the main runway at the west end next to the tower that you could walk to in about 10 or 15 mins from the railway station or you can drive your car right up onto it and view in comfort! Landings are mostly from the west but you can get good rotations if they're going out the other way.

Shots like these are available from this location. Taxiing out and landing/departing towards the east.

There is also a bridge over the railway line that allows a view of approaches from the east but I prefer the banking much more.

GLASGOW is pretty easy too (with a car). The perimeter fence at the east end allows reasonable view but only through a fence (there are a couple of wee holes that you can use). DO NOT park your car (if you're driving) near the crash gate as the police will get most upset with you!

These shots were taken from the crash gate

There is also "the mound" at the west end of the runway which is accesible via a playing field round past the Loganair hangar. Take some boots with you as it's quite muddy.

These are from the mound...

cheers for the info John
P-wick
The only place i have found so far is near the BAE Systems entrance, but there is the fence in the way.
Also i know there is an airport patrol car, was kinna bit nervous bout taking pictures in case i have to ask permission from anyone first, and there was noone else snapping away

Are you from the area?
Not sure what road to take, i know there is a road off a roundabout on the opisite end of the runway to the train station, but not sure if there is access to it....?

Never been to Glasgow to Spot b4, only to drop mum off to to go places, but will try have a look.

David

I'm from Motherwell David. If you live in Ayrshire you should have no probs finding the spots at PIK. Email me for precise details on how to drive to the banking location.

Interesting subject as I am flying up to PIK for the day on 4th May for some pictures. The banking alongside the runway, Is that within walking distance from the terminal as I shall be flying and not have transport. Look forward to meeting some of the locals if anybody is going to be there.

Best regards

Ian Haskell

Ian, yes it is indeed within walking distance. Just come out the front door and turn left. I reckon it'll take you about 15 mins to walk down.

PIK is always full of susprises... for example I popped down yesterday and got a Fokker 50, 747-300F, 747-400F, 3 x Hawk T1's and a Nimrod just to cap it all!!

Good luck!

John
