Hey!

Can any of you NIKON or CANON users tell me the real disadvantages of purchasing "grey" ?

On higher priced items the difference is big time!

I know the U.S. or Euro warranty is very desireable, but what about the GREY?

Hello,

It is my understanding that you are buying an imported item with no warranty whatsoever. So I guess the disadvantage would be that if you break it or need to be fixed you're most likely going to be in the hole more than the difference between a grey item over a full warranty item.

Hope that helps,

Matt

If you're talking an import from B&H, then if you ever had a problem with the item, you just send it back to B&H and they send it for repair.

When I get enough cash for the 100-400L, I'm buying the import.

And don't forget you can buy a Mack extended warranty on the grey market lens, and still come out ahead, with a longer warranty as well.

Plus, it is not uncommon for Adorama or B&H to send you the US version even if you ordered a grey market lens. That is what they did for me, and many others based on dpreview.com threads.
