There is an information on B&H's website, B&H Superstore will be closed today (Friday, 22nd) for one week.

Anyone knows 17th Street Camera Shop? They offer 20D and 28-300L for about 3550,-- $. Is 17th Street Camera Shop a good adress?

Thanks for any ideas and tips, I'll arrive in JFK today in the evening.

Anne

Anne,
Adorama will also be closed the same dates.
Check Tri State Camera 50W. 20th St. (cor 6th Ave.)
Not sure about the price of camera+lens but it is one of the few
options in NY this weekend. tristatecamera.com
Good luck

Jew Passover holiday is the reason, Anne. B&H is owned by Jews, as I guess is Adorama.

They normaly close half day on a Friday and closed all day Saturday, open Sunday, this is because they are Jewish owned, as with most of the camera shops there. Be carefull with the prices from B&H as they add about another 7% on top of the price, sales tax. In fact thats for all NY shops. I bought my 'L' lenses there and they can also offer you a worldwide waranty for an extra $30 or so.

Best prices I have seen.

Sales tax in NY is 8,625%, as Fergul says; take that into account, Anne.

I am not sure these are worth it, I bought one for my former EOS 300D, and I wrote several e-mails some months ago, when I sold the camera, to transfer the warranty to the new owner, and I am still waiting for a reply. So I wonder how would they act if I needed service
 Sad

The warranty in question was bought at B&H from: www.mackcam.com

Thanks Javibi, I knew there was a .625 in there somewhere, just couldn't remember the exact figure.

I didn't take the offer of the insurance as my gear is fully insured with my insurance against almost everything. If I have a problem then I just claim off the insurance. Thankfully I haven't had the need. Always insure you gear.

My camera and lensess are insured against almost everything, too. So I don't need the world wide warranty.

I spend so many time in the United States, so the US warranty will be sufficient for me.

Thanks for the warnings about tax and warranty!

I'd like to, but I did not find any reasonable way to do it here in Spain. My house insurance would charge me an exorbitant amount for it, and I couldn't find any specific photographic equipment insurance.

How much are you paying? Do you know of any company that could accept Spanish clients?

Thanks

There is a UK based insurance site on the net where they insure camera gear. It may benefit you to start a new thread Javibi asking for that site address.

Its meant to be good as I know, Colin Work, uses it, (I think)

I thought I had saved the address, sorry mate!

PS Mine is with my household insurance too and it covers my equipment for 6 months away from the house.

At www.fredmiranda.com there is a buy and sell forum. Quite a bit of pro equipment for sale.
