I did my first spotting two weeks ago at LAX and SFO, and quickly realized my 28-100 lens for my Minolta Maxxum 5 just wasn't going to cut it for spotting. What lens would you all suggest for my camera? I am a college student so I can't go out and drop $500 for a lens.

Minolta has a 75-300 which I used a bit, but I didn't find it very sharp at the longer focal lengths.
You can look at the Sigma EX lenses, although they are a bit more expensive.
