Evening All,

At present I own A Canon EOS 300D, Vertical Grip, Sigma 70 - 200 F2.8 EX HSM, 1.4 x EX convertor and 18 - 55 EF-S.

I have got some spare cash at present, first time in a while and just fancy some new equipment, don't really need it, results have been good so far but hey why work so hard without some reward?

What are your thoughts?

Options are:-

Canon EOS 1D II
Canon EOS 20D + Grip
Canon EF 100 - 400L
Canon EF 17 - 40
Sigma 15mm Fisheye

Or a combination of the above other than the 1 D II.

Regards Simon

Dump the sigma, and go for the 70-200 2.8 IS  tongue

Seriously though, I would go for the 100-400 as it might give you the extra reach. Depends really on what you usually use, and what you plan on using in the future!

I guess that's what happens in the end, you start thinking about the beginning.

Combination?

I would go for the 20D+grip and 100-400L.... great combo which together surpass the 1d MkII

Cheers,

Simon

If you can get the 20D and the 100-400 LIS.

Just my thoughts.

I might have them soon too! I actually plan on getting almost the same equipment as you! Hopefully by summer's start, I will have the 70-200 2.8, 300 f4, and 17-40  biggrin

I'm working on it!

Good luck Sebastian

I don't have the 17-40L but Paul has that one and its a good lens. I went for the cheaper option, because of a lack of funds and Simon you may consider this one too, the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 EX DG Aspherical. Very fast lens and sharp too but very noisy on the AF, lets the lens down a good bit but the quality is fab.

Here is a shot from that lens.

That 70-200 is a joy to use too.

Depends what you want to do. I wouldn't take the 1D II route unless you've got pretty heavy duty aspirations for the hobby.

Do what makes you happy.

Get the 100-400. If you're thinking of blowing the cash strictly in terms of aviation photography, the lens is probably your best bet. And even if you have other uses, you already have a decent wide angle lens in the 18-55, so go for a better tele now. Aren't those Canons supposed to blow the Sigmas away?

I'd consider the 300/4 IS L or the 300/2.8 ( quality better than any zoom) depending your cash...
I prefer these lenses in addition to a Canon TC...

Just my 2 poor cents..

Enrique
