Hello guys,
some of you A.netters might remember the fun we had in LHR last year on May 22nd, the day the Kenya 777 arrived from the US on her delivery flight. There were lots of A.net people and we had some good laughs, especially with the crew from CMF, A and W.
That's one of the reasons I really couldn't resist giving myself another nice little treat of LHR's finest air traffic. That's right: I'll be visiting LHR during the weekend of May 14-15th, together with Wim Callaert, another BRU spotter/photographer. We'll be staying at the Renaissance Hotel, in a Club Level room. This should give us a good view of traffic (I remember the stay in that hotel in 2003, also with W,A, Sabena332, Ndebele, Sabena690, TurboTrent,...).
Anyway, if anybody is interested, feel free to join us that weekend and shoot some great photos of aircraft landing and departing at LHR. Since I've always had pretty decent weather the last few years in London, I'm pretty confident we'll have acceptable weather as well during that weekend.
Basically we'll arrive around 8h00 LT and, depending on traffic, we'll head straight to a spotting place or, should weather be bad, possibly try to get an early check-in in the Renaissance Hotel, so we can drop off our bags (not very likely, but I've requested an early check-in). In case of bad weather our hotel room could provide us with some good viewing opportunities. Sunday evening we'll depart around 17h00 back to T4 for our evening flight back to BRU.
Greets,
Ivan

Quoting G-CIVP (Reply 4): Pilot Kaz - if your going to be at LHR, I have no option but to bring some fine Belgium chocolates with me and some of my photos to charm you with!
Is this 'LHR mini meet' for Sunday May 15th? Sounds interesting, that's for sure. Hope we run into each other. Would be nice to meet some other people at LHR... If you see two people taking photos with some nice white L glass, that's probably me and Wim... On the photo above, I'm the third from the left. Notice however, that normally I don't laugh at all
I just got an email from a 'LHR resident' who predicts 09 ops the whole weekend. In order to get some nice takeoff shots he suggested to go to 'Staines Road' in Feltham, a 15-20 min walk from Hatton Cross. Anybody has an idea on how to get there by bus or by foot from Hatton Cross or so?

To get to Feltham, take the 285 from Hatton Cross.
Below is a link to a map. The A315 is Staines Road. The 285 runs along the small yellow road going away from Hatton Cross, then joins the orange road, A312 and follows that down and turns right at the second cross roads, by the 'M' in Feltham.
It isn't far to walk, but the bus is quicker. Tesco's car park is just before the A315/A312 cross roads, where there is a small cream road going into the big grey bit. Thats not too bad for shots either, and food drink and toilets on tap.
On this map, the 09L spot is where the roundabout is next to the 'L' in Longford, thats where we all were last year in the field. If you walk up to the A4, then turn left and walk along about 200m there is a bridge that goes over the M25, you are almost on the same level as the landing a/c from the bridge, especially the heavies.

If you click on the aerial Camera icon you can get this for 09 left.

Hi,
I am just back from my weekend at LHR together with Wim aka 'Minoeke'. We sure had some fun, even though bus line 81 was a complete mess, ending up in a long walk from Harlington Corner to the 09L approach spot and waiting more than one hour to catch a bus back to our hotel.
Saturday the weather wasn't perfect. We got the MH special 747, but it took off from 09R quite early, ending up in non-perfect shots.
Sunday were 27 ops. We made some amazing photo's, that's for sure. And guess what arrived on 27R while we were waiting on our bas back to T4. Yup, the MH special 747 bathing in perfect evening sunlight. Oh well, there are more important things in life.
We also met with some London 'residents' and had a nice chat.

Kaz,
thanks for that photo. When I saw it coming in while standing at the bus station I had a tough time staying calm. But we just started laughing and after a minute or so our bus arrived.
We just could have made it, but it could have arrived at 18h30 as well, and then we have to hurry to T4 for nothing basically. Still a pitty, since the departure shots from Saturday were not perfect...
We departed around 8PM on A319 G-EUPX and arrived 15 minutes ahead of schedule. The last BA flight out of BRU was even standing at our gate when we taxied in. Even 2/3 of the gates were empty, we still had to wait for the other aircraft being pushed back, can you believe?
Anyway, tomorrow I'll take a look at my photos. I think they'll be quite good.

Quoting Pilot kaz (Reply 21): Here you are A very fast edit though so sorry for that
Kaz,
As Wim said, thanks for that photo. We even sat in that seat. So when you took this photo I was taking some photos as well Was that one taken from the famous Esso station spot?
The 747 underneath it is really stunning. I wish I'd taken that one, even more than the MH special c/s. It's just brilliant!
