Hello, Does anyone have any tips as for spotting in las vegas (where exactly to go). Also would anyone be able to inform me on night photography at the airport?

Teahan,
I have just been there.....
it is good from the car park above the America West gates and I did not have any hassle with security.
A long lens is needed and I would imagine that heat haze could be a massive problem. It was cold/cool when I was there two weeks ago and as soon as the sun came out it became a problem.
There are masses of biz jets there but they did not seem at all accessible.

The parking garage is great, walk around to all parts. Sunset is awesome too. That viewing area is great. I personally love the Jack in the Box on LV Blvd. If you have a good lens you can get great shots.

Note that the fence at the Sunset Road viewing area is rather high, you'll need either a tall ladder, van/minivan, or SUV to stand on top of.

True,

If you have a good lens though you can get good shots right through the fence. Just put your lens right up to it!

Sunset Park (on Sunset Blvd) is nice for 25 arrivals. Also, when the 1's are in use, there are nice afternoon shots . There are some ancient car-carriers over there and I parked there (down from Terrible's gas station).

I know! When they use 1 it's awesome if you are spotting at the Jack in the Box! Too bad they don't use it much.  airplane

Or stand on top of a car/suv or get a ladder.. Shooting through fence is very aggrivating. If you can shoot OVER the fence, its 100 times better.

Here's a couple that I got from a spot I found on the corner of S Las Vegas Blvd and W Sunset . They were taken late in the day when the 1's were in use . It was real windy that day . The spot was right by a car storage place and those old car carriers.

On top of my car?  faint

Just spent 30 grand on a car. Not going to stand on top of it! I know a ladder is ideal but you have to be careful there. I met a guy who kept a ladder in his trunk and he would pull it out when a good photo op came along. The police at LAS are great but you don't want them seeing that. I know shooting over the fence is good. IFP has a short fence and I can stand on a crate and get right over it! Just like this one I snapped at IFP.

Well, as long as you aren't a severly heavy set person and you have a sturdy top on your car, standing on the top shouldnt be a problem..

This is me shooting over the fence in Las Vegas in January:

... and the police saw me numerous times and just waved to me  Wink

That's ok I won't take the chance. In fact I park across the street from the sunset viewing area. January? Damn Adam I may have been there. I am in Nevada all winter. We should spot sometime.
