Sorry Kyle, it opens for me...
Here is the Show Information :
Date: June 4, 2005
Please join us at Peterson AFB for an Air show featuring the USAF Thunderbirds – the Air Force’s premier aerial demonstration team. Don’t miss the best Air show ever! Gates will be open from 7 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Admission and parking are free, however, space is very limited and people are encouraged to carpool. There will be plenty of shuttle buses on the base to get people to the show.
Up to 150,000 people are expected to attend this event. As with any event of similar size, please plan to arrive early, but be prepared for unexpected delays.
This is a way for your Air Force in Colorado to say ‘Thank You’ for your support, and to see Colorado’s finest military units up close.
There will be something for everyone: static displays, entertainers, the Air Force NASCAR showcar, an enlistment ceremony performed by a Thunderbird pilot, concessions, shopping, a hangar full of children’s activities, autographs from the Thunderbirds pilots, and much, much more.
The Thunderbirds will sign autographs following the show, so bring a pen or marker if you have something special you'd like them to write with.
Performances will be from 10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

They are already here. They practice today at the AFA and perform tomorrow for the Class of 2005's graduation, you will need an invitation for tomorrow, but I think anyone can get on the grounds today.

How badly does this show affect the airliner flights going into and out of COS? Do they time the displays so that airliners can get out while there's no flight display going on?

It is official, I hate Parker cops.
I got rear-ended on Parker Rd. today driving home from Wally World, I was stopped at a traffic light, as I was taking a sip of pepsi it turned green (mind you it was red), when I looked up to go a lady slammed into the back of my chevy pushing down the back bumper.
The cops wanted to write both of us a ticket, me for (get this) failing to obey traffic signals (the damn thing had only turned green a second ago and I was the only person at the light at the time), and her for (obviously) not paying attention to traffic ahead. Nobody got tickets and we'll probably both have liability.
Long story short, while my car is being repaired, I don't know if I can make the show.

If anything, anyone who wants to carpool should meet at the jetCenter parking lot at APA at say around 7:30-8am. I have to be back in Denver by 8pm for work. That shouldn't be a problem unless traffic is horrid.

Good call. We probably won't be there until 6pm though so getting back by 8 should be no problem. Just FYI, The way I get down to COS is by taking 83 down to Hodgen Rd, going left at Hodgen then making a right at Black Forest rd, taking black forest to Woodmen and taking a right at Woodmen, taking Woodmen to Powers and taking a left on Powers which takes you down to the airport and Peterson AFB. Its not as direct as the interstate, but you do avoid alot of the traffic.

California getting to ya? Too bad we don't have too many airshows. While on the topic of airshows, does anyone know of a site where I can access information for airshows in Northern Cali?
Thanks,
Matt
Oh Kyle, I sent you a message back but my phone is dead and I'm almost positive I left my charger at school...

I know Travis AFB has one at least once a year it seems. Just on friday there was one at Nut Tree Airport. Nothing too special, just some old vintage stuff, but cool nonetheless. Best idea is to keep your eyes in the newspaper, or just search online. Sometimes google news; (airshow california) stuff like that.

Drop me an email or give me a call tomorrow from about noon on.

My 75-300millimizzle has failed me once again, and the light kinda sucked to boot. We did get some nice static shots though and a couple of the T-birds and F-15 flying in formation with the P-51 turned out halfway decent.

I got some good pics at the Air Force Academy Graduation, as it was a nice sunny day. Today, I missed most of the airshow and arrived at about the time the Thunderbirds started up, the weather was crappy, go figure, so most of the shots didnt turn out great, luckily for me they did the exact same performance they did the other day. However, they were missing a plane, as I have a picture of them having 6 planes at the fly by at the AFA graduation, then the airshow took forever, only 5 returned and again only 5 performed at the airshow. Other then that there were a couple cool things down there, Im willing to bet that the airshow that is coming to COS in July will be better.

Well the NW 320 made it out just in time, however, a UA 733 wasnt so lucky, then ended up having to wait at the runway for about 15 minutes until the thunderbirds were done performing, landed, and parked. Stupid rules with military aircraft, a civilian plane cant even taxi when they are around.
"Some People Just Know How To Fly"- Best slogan ever, RIP NW 1926-2009

Maybe if I would have known about it more than a day in advance I would have made it down there. It seems these things are never advertised at all. The last time they did that was Air Show Colorado 2002 and everyone in the state showed up. First thing I heard about this airshow was on 9news Friday morning before my lessons. I don't imagine the wx was any good for the one yesterday though. Clouds looked to be pretty close to mins in the morning so I figured all you would see was a few ILS to approaches.
If any of you guys make it up to 2V2 (longmont) over the next few days I will be taking most of my students up there for touch n goes and will probably be doing some low passes ove the runway till they find the flare. Could make a good photo if the wind/sun combination is right?

Maybe not longmont, but I definetely need to go spotting with you some time, as I've been spotting for a little over a year here and have yet to even meet you! I think Eric Smith is in the same boat too. We should hit DEN or APA.
Quoting JeffM (Reply 22): Tim, I posted this on Tuesday for you guys! The weather did look pretty bad though. Hopefully it will be nicer for the Blue Angels in Grand Junction.
25 DLKAPA: The clouds did make for some very nice static shots later on. As we went inside the C-17, a storm started kicking up south of the airport, when we go
26 JeffM: Looks like the weather held out enough for you guys. More then a few keepers i'll bet. If you upload this: Make sure you don't label it as an A4 like
27 Manzoori: Nice T-45 shot Eric... perhaps a bit oversharpened on the red 'jet Intake' stripes but a lovely shot nonetheless! Cheers, Rez
29 Nosedive: I could have sworn the 737 taxied down the runway. If anything, I hope the pilots tuned into the Thunderbirds freq so that the pax could listen in on
30 DLKAPA: The 737 did taxi out to 35L during the thunderbirds performance.
31 Jderden777: nice shots Eric...looks like it was a decent show and i especially like the dc-3 with the storm...one small thing though... this - > http://rockymount
