When Is A Gate Shot Motivated?

I certainly dont want to bash this photo or its photographer. But it did pose a question for me. What makes a gate shot motivated? And what in this shot makes it so special?

Most gate shots are rejected even if they are clean (with out vehicles/equipment in the shot). From what I understand this is because they are so typical and there's nothing special about them (unlike the excitement of takeoff/landing). This photo has a lot of equipment in the shot and I dont see anything in the remark to make it real special.

I'm I missing something? I'm asking just for future reference.

I'd assume that it's because there's alot of equipment around but yet none of it blocks the aircraft itself.

There are plently of photos in the database of Northwest's first 753. Looks like part of the aircraft is in cloud shadow as well. This should have never made it in. Maybe it's because he's Gay...
