Just got an email requesting use of this photo in a private collection.
I'm in the process of emailing him now and stipulating that the photo is not to be used in any way for advertising or profit gain and the photo must not be altered.
Am not thinking of charging him for it.
Am I thinking wrong?

What does he want.
A high res file? Then i would say no way. For private use 1024 width or max. 1200 should be fine. Otherwise you run into the risk of being ripped of.
But if he wants a print he can use the buy a print option where this photo can be bought and all parties involved are happy. He because he gets his print, you because you have no work to do and you get half of the profit and a.net because the site gets the other half of the profit.
Just out of curiosity is the guy from Canada?
Peter

If he wants it for his personal collection, ask him what size he wants, edit ti accordingly, get it printed and charge him money.

Don't let people take advantage of you and whore out the hard work that you do to get those shots.

Already sent off the email
1200 wide or less, he can have save it to his hard drive, print it, and have it for free. More than 1200 wide, click on "buy a print".
Just wasn't sure of personal collections. If it was a travel agent or airline, I'd definitely ask for a fee regardless of size.
Feels good though to have a photo in my collection to be wanted by a collector.

When you see your photo on some billboard somewhere, I'm going to laugh.

This guy (if it is who I think it is) collects 777 shots. He's emailed me a few times but I see no reason to give out a high-res file to anyone. He can just order a print off a.net imo.

what seems to be the officer, problem?

Hi,

if this is Dann asking for the photo I gave him one of mine a few months back. Was quite a nice chap and was just looking to print and put on his bedroom wall at home. Here is a copy of the email I sent him (if it helps).

Michael

Glad you like it. And thank you for asking. I am more than happy to send a larger file, but before I do, can I ask that:

- you not use this photo for anything other than use on your personal PC as a screen backdrop, or to print out for display at your home
- that the copyright banner be left on for all prints and/or use on your personal PC
- that any requests for use of the photo beyond this be directed via myself
- that the photo only be used for yourself and not for any monetary gain or other ventures not agreed by myself.

If you are happy with this, let me know by mail and I will send the photo straight away. Sorry to sound a little heavy. Hope you don't mind.

Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.
Michael H

I resized it to 1200 x 800 and sent it off.
Thanks for the tips.
