Any Rumor On A New Canon Digital Model?

A friend of mine was about to purchase a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and the owner of the store pulled him aside and told him to wait a while longer, three months or so..........yet he wouldn't tell him any more.

I do understand that Canon and Nikon continue to come out with newer, greater, better, etc....models all the time, but does anyone have any knowledge to a new model that Canon is developing that would replace the Canon EOS 1D Mark II ???

He looked on a lot of photographer's forums and didn't find out any information so I told him I would post on this forum as well.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Jay

Wow! I was seriously considering picking up a 1DmkII also. Wait and see I guess. The rumors (if true) should start flowing soon then...

I love my EOS 1D Mark II and like my friend said, if and when they do announce another new camera, it will take 3 to 4 months, at the earliest to get it to market. He wants to buy a Mark II right now.

Seriously, go buy the Mark II. You'll love it !!

I do  Smile

The 20Da was just an infrared adapted 20D I think?

LOL.... that made me chuckle.....I can't see Nikon seeing anything but the rear sled dog's view for a while yet.

Jay, the 'new' model will have some big shoes to fill to be a step up from the 1dMkII that is for sure. I think I'll wait and see what the specs will be, and maybe it will drop a few bucks.

Hi all,

"Lots of canonites making the switch at the mo"

That made me laugh, set me up for the weekend Big grin

I was told by an a.netter that around September time a 20D replacement will be announced so to hold off for a few months if you are waiting

There were rumors that Canon will introduce a new model which will be inbetween the 1D/M2 and the 20D but will replace neither. But some were saying that it will mostly hurt the 1D/M2 market and that's why they were offering a nice $500 rebate on it for the past few months in the US.

Remember though, these are just rumors and not from any Canon "insider".

There are rumours of something between the the 1dMK and the 20D. But of course, since the SLR camera entered the digital playground, the lifecycle of new cameras is getting shorter and shorter. So, more or less, once every 1 or 2 years either Nikon and/or Canon will come out with something new. I would either buy now, what I want, despite the fact, that in three months it will be outdated, or wait until the replacement is announced to buy the older model for less money.

After all, a 20D, or a 1dMK will always be the same top cameras.

Oh, and BTW, I know three Nikonites, who completely switched to Canon, and only one Canonite who plans to use Nikon besides his Canon 1dMKII  Wink So much for the Canonites switching to the dark side  Wink

Jan
I heard of someone who was thinking about it.
The men in white coats came and took him away. The Doctor says that with help and medication he should make a full recovery.
I have actually heard of a few going from Nikon to Canon, and all since the digital revolution. There has never been much to choose between them in quality, except for personal choice....until digital when Canon have taken the lead.

Heh, just the other day, I talked to a photographer from the Tulsa World newspaper. She was covering the Oklahoma State Girls's Junior Tournament at the golf course I work at. She was shooting with a Nikon D1H. I asked her about it. She said the paper was about to switch to all Canon. Big grin

The D2X has it all in one body, Canon has it all spread out on different bodies. But Canon are probably gonna up the ante come autumn.

The shops here are talking of a Canon 1D MK III with 12mp sensor due the end of the year. Even though there is absolutely no information on the camera the shops are taking bookings.

Interesting that any brick and mortar store owner would discourage someone from purchasing a $4000 camera body.

What about the 1Ds at 16MP?

cheers,

Full frame sensor, the 1D has a 1.3 crop, which can be nice when needing a bit of extra range.

I'm just hoping for a new Prosumer DSLR to succeed the 20D. I'm no longer pleased with the results of my 10D, but I don't want to get a 20D just to have it obsolete in months (which is what happened when I got the 10D).

Well... We'll just wait and see... It's all speculation.
I'm not planning to replace my 10D just yet, heck, I paid 2000+ Euro's for it just over 2 years ago! And a 1000 Euro write-off per year would be more than what I pay for my car! That's insane when you think about it rationally. It's nowhere near the end of its life expectancy anyway. I'll skip a generation or two...  Smile (unless Canon comes out with something too good to be true)
