Hi,

I have an oldish one of these which I bought second hand some time ago. The comments in the link Gagriel provided are pretty much in line with my experience. It is light weight and although it feels a bit flimsy I have found it stands quite a bit of rough treatment without any problems. The zoom is a bit slack but the only real problem is that images do tend to be soft above 200 mm especially with an aperture wider than f8. This said I still use the lens as a back up and I can still get shots accepted on to the DB using it.

It really comes down to budget. If you only have limited funds this is a fairly good lens but you will probably want something better in the future although it will likely cost you an awful lot more money !
