Hi all,
I took a couple of digital MPG videos while visiting St. Maarten, and I thought I would share them with you guys. Each video is between 5.2mb and 5.6mb, and runs 15 seconds. The compression is low so the quality is quite good (for an MPG ). Below are links to download, and a small description of each video.
Air France 747-200 Departs Runway 09 - I thought I'd get a shot of the Air France 747 departing Runway 09 for Santo Domingo, then pan the camera to 'the beach' to show the sand blowing around and the water kicking up. Little did I know that I'd catch a few poor souls who decided to challenge the jetblast getting blown into the water! An interesting video showing the power of a 747's jetblast!
Air France 747-200 Landing Runway 09 - This video is taken from a point on 'the beach,' just north of the Runway 09 extended centerline. See what it feels like to stand on Maho Beach when a 747 lands. Note the wind noise of the wake turbulence after the 747 passes.
Corsair 747-200 Landing Runway 09 - Corsair arriving from Orly on Runway 09. The video is taken from a point approximately 300m north-east of the Runway 09 extended centerline and threshold, from the Maho Beach Hotel & Casino outdoor restaurant/pool/beach area. Corsair is just a little low.

Speaking of st marteen, i just got my copy of JPV's St Marteen airport video the other day- it is outrageous- the action is just unbelievable- one AF 74 comes in so low that you have to rewind it 10 times to watch just how low it actually is over the road just before the rwy.

Chris,
AWESOME AWESOME Mpegs!!! Thanks for showing them to us.
I like the Air France 747 when it's takeing off, it's soooo funny to see the people getting blown into the ocean from the jet blast. I bet it's fun too. either they getting blown or they are running to the water.
How much did you pay for the trip to SXM? I told my father about St. Maarten and he might go there when he retires.

Awesome videos, thanks for sharing them with all of us.
My personal favorite is the one of the people getting blasted by the AF 742, bet they weren't expecting that when they stood at the fence to watch the takeoff.

Killer clips, Chris! Like Klm744, I really liked the jet blast that was stunning. I showed some friends this particular clip (as well as the AF 747 landing) and they were 'blown away' (pun intended!)

Its better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than be in the air wishing you were on the ground. Fly safe!

All I can say is: WOOOOOOOW. I already was impressed by this airport, just by looking at some pictures, but now I've seen some GREAT video footage, I can't wait to go there, and check it out myself. Excellent job you did there, Chris!!!
If only more member could do this. I, unfortunately, can't, since I don't have a video camera. But, wouldn't it be nice to see more video footage of other airports around the world?

Hey Joe:
Do you think that JPV St. Maarten is better than the Gabon Express Caravelle one?

I dont know Bill thats a tough one. I'll tell you this much, i showed the st martin JPV video to some of my non-aviation friends and they all went bonkers- i think i made some new airliner spotters out of em after watching the tape- can you imagine, 2 straight hours of st martin action??? its just phenomenal.
