I guessed this would happen...

The intent of my thread was perhaps the same as LIPH's but I had hoped it was better positioned.
It is clear that some folks thought it was a good thing even if the orig thread had been locked... have to admit not all did but hey this is an open forum, well some of us thought it was

As LIPH said the 'big dogs" don't like the little guys getting exposure...

As I said before I don't understand the ambivelence that the "clique" show towards actually promoting photography!!

EDIT.. It has been pointed out that I am in breach of Rule 5 regarding the reopening of inflammatory threads, I do not believe that to be the case I am perhaps guilty of being interested in what LIPH was trying to see.

Interest in new and upcoming photographers is apparently not desireable here.

Cheers

Chris

There are many ways to see the new and up coming photographers on this site.
If your new and upload a single photo that photo will be seen on the 24-48 hour list, If that photo gets to the dizzy heights of top of the day it will be exposed in other places. The brand new photographers name will feature on the search database page which actually "welcomes" the new photographers. On the home page even there is a link to new photographers.

I have 800 odd pics here and it would be nice to get the exposure that the new photog's get! (tongue in cheek)

in my view the new photog's get the exposure, your complaint i believe is unjustified...

When I started at A.net, there were no features like Ryan pointed out. You'd upload your shot and it would immediately sink into the database (which at 15.000 was not as big back then, so that's a minor plus). No top of the day, no statistics with hits, nothing...
Beginning photographers get WAY more exposure than years ago. I don't think there is anything to complain about. And on a side note: 'Big dogs' is not really a nice thing to call people...

Again I think you better keep a better eye on your morning coffee. It is obvious some slipped something in it. Your living in a fantasy land. To address the point you are trying to make. I am close to getting my 20th accepted here. I have began to improve as a photog and have found nothing but good people here willing to help with advice, editing and the like. This also includes the screeners. Which at any time will help you. Provided you go about things the proper way. Something you should do instead of wasting our time and server space with these threads. The quicker you realize the screeners are not just here to screen pictures and that there is no conspiracy and "cliques" here the better off you will be. Not to mention that the screeners volunteer their time as well. They are here to help, not to hurt.

Hi all

This is all concerning LIPH's original thread that was locked.

His comment 'Id like to lunch this freaky pool', which I took to read 'Id like to launch this freaky poll' should have been placed on the Polls and Preferences forum. This posting had nothing to do with photography at all really did it?

Interest in new and upcoming photogaphers ARE welcomed here. Polls for having less than 20 images in the database as not, well not this forum anyway.

Robin has said my thoughts 100%.

Gary

I hope this can be sorted out as i would hate for this site to lose a photog like Chris.(reason im saying this is because he just got banned )and his not at all happy with it
Im not trying to piss in his pocket but Chris has always helped me along since i have known him and will always try to help people in any way he can.
His not a photog that started out yesterday his one that has been around for a long time and knows his work.
I think this site and the people that run it can afford Chris the opportunity to voice his opinions

A guy asks (whether it be in textbook English or not) who the "small" photographers in here are, and the whole world goes crazy. I'm still yet to see what was wrong with what LIPH said and I think the way some reacted was unfortunate to say the least.

As I said to Chris in a message, if LIPH had asked who the ones in here are with over 500 in the database, would it have been met with the same contempt?

Too bad the thread has been deleted and I can't find the exact words anymore... But when you're talking about a 'clique' and naming people 'big dogs', you're bound to step on someone's toes.

The thing that started it all was the Calimero attitude of LIPH.

I agree that Chris's thread perhaps referred too much to the earlier one, which set people off on the wrong foot.

But I don't get it: the way I understood Chris's thread, it was just an invitation to discover photogs with less than 50 pics, in another way than just clicking the 'new photographers' list. He even explained it further, and I don't think there was any frustration in the way he put it. But that's my impression. In any case I thought it was a good idea.

Immediately reactions started from people saying that such a thing was not needed, that they thought it was a useless post. Well so what? Did it hurt anyone that the post was there?

I do not agree with the conspiracy theories about established photogs, big dogs etcetera. That is simply not true. But I certainly do not agree neither with the way in which Chris's thread including all replies, was simply deleted (not even locked or so). It was IMO unnecessary to do so.

Thanks Ryan and Fergul for bringing up the local photog list. In the same spirit, paraphrasing what was said before, I would still like to know if there is an interest in starting some kind of new list with photographers having less than 50 pics, either by choice or because they are building up their collection. This is not necessarily linked to a particular airport. I don't see why that would be more or less useful or harmful than any other list here, whether it's self-portraits, million-hits congrats, same-time pics and any other recent themes, which are all equally interesting, innocent and motivating. Why is it that all such threads get criticism of some sort at some point? Don't read it if you don't like it, right?

I hope I've not stepped on any toes, I don't have any bad intentions with this.

Open forum? Does it say that somewhere in the rules you agreed to? You have no "rights" to post what you want here. Guidelines and moderators keep the threads pointed in the direction of Johan's choosing. Stray from them and this is what happens. Simple and effective.

As to finding contributors who have less the 50 photos, just check the main photo page, every day there is a list of almost 20 new photographers. What makes you think people don't look at what the new members are submitting?

Why not start a spotlight thread for people with handicaps who have managed to get a photo accepted, or kids under 15, or mothers with 3 or more children, or anyone over 70?

Jeff, nothing personal, but I don't see why you make a comparison like this, given the very detailed explanation above. But anyway, well why not? Why would such a thread need to be prohibited, if any other spotlight threads are OK? I think it is very sad that people keep bashing an idea that is entirely innocent.

We by and large know who the big names are within the forum and this was aimed at the other end of the spectrum - what's the big deal?

32 Edoca : Thank you for your attention to the above.
33 TFSPhoto : So its ok for you to publicly attack other users on the forum? Not when you come up with crap like.. Yes the screeners do a excellent job on the foru
34 Sulman : Couple of things of interest here. 1) It's a harmless topic. Not really necessary to ban anyone, is it? 2) 'Big Dogs' is a colloquialism, Eduard. I do
35 Clickhappy : I guess I don't get it. Perhaps I am not cut out to be a 'crew' member. I was sharing my opinion. You have called it a 'personal attack.' Now you are
36 TFSPhoto : Well maybe you should consider your postition as a crew member, the fancy title still doesnt justify you attacking other people on the forum, nit pick
