I'm looking at two DSLR's:
I really like the Olympus E300 retails under 1,400 CDN
Comes with a 28-90mm and a 100-400mm lenses.

Second is the Canon 20D retails near the same for the body and it speaks for itself.

Question becomes who has tested both and their preference being...

Olympus is a CCD which would not be my first choice, stay with canon i have a friend with that Evolt 300 he is not too fond of it. Remember there is the 350D also which is almost identical to the 20D in abilities although has fewer Custom functions.

Why not look at the Konika Minolta Dynax 7 (correct model?) DSLR. If I had the money I'd get it, an anti-shake system is in the camera itself, and makes handheld poddible up to 3, yes Three stops lower!

I think one could not say that a CMOS sensor is better as a CCD sensor per se (in this case not so many people would buy Nikons, for example...).

I have no experience with the 20D, but I own a Olympus E300 so let me quote my reply from this thread:

Digital SLR For A Starter? (by Boeingfan71 Sep 10 2005 in Aviation Photography)

"Hi Drake,

here is another recommendation for you (all you Canon and Nikon user out there just turn around for a second Wink )

Have you thought about the Olympus Evolt E-300? It is a 8MP DSLR that comes in a so-called "Double-Zoom-Kit" with a 14-45mm f/3.5-5.6 and a 40-150mm f/3.5-4.5 lens which are very good (especially for kit-lenses, according to different tests these are the best kit-lenses out there).
Given that the camera has a cropping factor of 2, you'll have a range of 28mm-300mm equivalent.

Complete set with camera, two lenses and a 1gb cf-card comes for $829.95
Have a look here: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...6922&is=REG&addedTroughType=search

I own this set since June, and all I can say is that I am extremely satisfied with it (13 pics so far in the db, have a look at my profile)"

Not much to add (only that I have 15 pics in the db now Big grin), picture quality is very good, only if you want to take many pics in a row, the E300 is not the optimum as its internal buffer is rather small (you can take four pics in a row at max quality, then have to wait a moment while the camera is clearing its buffer). But with a good and fast CF-Card this only takes seconds and you can shoot again. So far this hasn't limited my possibilities. Camera is able to record JPEG and RAW parallelly.
The quality of the body is very good (better than the quality of the 350D IMHO).

I can't comment on the lenses you wrote about, but I'm very interested in these (especially in the 100-400 mm lens)! What brand? Technical data? Sounds interesting...

So, I would say: Go for the camera, at least I'm happy with it. But sometimes one feels a little lost between all those Canon and Nikon guys...  Wink

Best Regards,
Fabian/PositiveClimb Big grin
