As I stated in another thread I am going to spend the whole month of November in Australia. If there is no change of plans or problems with my flights I should be arriving at SYD the 29th of October in the afternoon. I'll stay 3 or 4 days at SYD before moving on. I wonder if any of the locals (or not locals) would like to meet or could provide any useful info about spotting in SYD and Australia in general.
Please answer in this thread or contact me via my pictures or profile. Thanks a lot.

Hi Javier,
Good to hear you'll be paying us a visit! I'd love to meet up when you're here in SYD and show you around a bit.
For a start, have a look at the YSSY enthusiast website for general info. The viewing areas guide gives a general overview of the main spots, however there are some others which are not listed. Email me for more specific info.

Hi Javier
I am hoping to meet you and other A.netter to Sydney in November, I can't make it back from USA to SYD until Oct 31 then straight to Canberra to work until 5 Nov.
I got a job promotion returning to Sydney in mid-Nov then I shall be free every morning and evening, please feel free to contact me when you need assistance. We can always have drinks after a long hard day of spotting or sightseeing

Gabriel, Sam, Alan: Thanks for your answers! I do not know yet for how long I am gonna be at SYD before we (my girlfriend and me) move on; our plan is to drive all the way up to Cairns. But I will keep in touch because I definitely would like to do some spotting and/or some beers!!
A couple of questions: any info about CNS? I've seen some gorgeous shots taken there!
Is there any confirmed schedule for the 380?
Regards

Hi Javier,
I heard from a fellow spotter that you can get some good spots from the hill just next to the airport (can't recall the exact name though). You will need a 300mm lens according to him.
By the way, I'll be in Sydney from November 12th in the evening until the morning of November 16th. I informed for one of the airside tours, but they already have a large group unfortunately, and somebody else told me that it is not thát good anyway...
Since I'll only stay 3 days in Sydney, I don't have any plans for visiting the airport, I'd rather visit the town. But if any local A.netter would like to show me around the airport or catch a beer with a Belgian (we know ALL about beer, we basically invented it ) I'll be staying in the 'Leisure Inns Park Regis Sydney' (just call reception or so and ask for me).
Greets,
Ivan
PS: Javier, should you happen to be in Cairns on November 25th, I'll be on flight AO7875 to HKG And I don't have any specific plans for November 24th yet.

Javier,
I'll possibly be free as well on one of the weekend days. I can certainly take you around for a bit of spotting, but some of this board may agree that at the end of a spotting day, I'm probably better at being the tourist guide
Give me 2 hours at the end of spotting day, and I'll give you an essential Sydney tour. Email me at gstewart@tt.com.au.
Cheers,
Glenn

Javier, here's the text of a standard email I send to enquirers:
These photos were taken from a lookout point on a walking track known as the 'Red and Blue Arrows' on the southern side of Mount Lumley Hill.
To access these tracks head towards the airport on the Captain Cook Highway. Just prior to the airport turnoff there is a road to the left named Collins Avenue. Turn left into Collins. You will pass the botanic gardens on your left and 'The Tanks' arts centre on your right. Just after 'The Tanks' there is a car park on your right where the 'Red and Blue Arrows' walking trails commence.
Follow the walking trail up the hill. When the trails branch off you can go either way as they meet up at the top. After about twenty minutes walk you will get to the track intersection and a single, winding path continues up the hill. Walk for about five minutes up that track and you will reach a lookout point with a shelter that is directly above the Runway 33 threshold.
This location is best in the afternoon for the sun direction. You will find that departure shots from Runway 15 like the one you linked are less likely at this time of year, however approach and landing shots to Runway 33 are just a satisfying:
The local newspaper, the 'Cairns Post' lists aircraft arrival and departure times each day, so it is worth taking that with you. Most International departures occur at about midday.

@ Glenn:
Thanks for your kind offer, I'll try to take advantage of it I'll send you an e-mail soon.
BTW I'll be really really happy if I come home with a shot like this one:
@ Anthony:
Thanks a lot for the info, you've got some really gorgeous shots!! I definitely have to find some time to climb that hill, it'd be a pleasure if you want to join. I do not know yet when I am gonna get to Cairns, I'll keep you posted.
@ Ivan:
It is a pity but I do not think we are gonna meet, your dates and my dates just do not synchronize...
Anyone knows about the 380 schedule?
Cheers

Yep, I'm sure that can be arranged! The intl. obs deck is certainly a highlight when 16R is active for arrivals... Some other kinds of stuff you can look forward to getting from there:
Quoting Javibi (Reply 12): Anyone knows about the 380 schedule?
It's not set in stone yet, however the most reliable arrival date given seems to be the 13th (of November, of course). It will then fly up to Brisbane on the 15th or 16th for QF's birthday celebrations. As long as you're around Sydney between the 13th and the 16th chances are you'll catch it. A more firm timetable should be released by Airbus and Qantas closer to the date.

I'll be carrying a cellular, my number is +34629450251, do write through my profile or send me a SMS if you wish to meet.
Thanks!

I did make it to SYD but I brought the rain with me as well Awful weather for spotting so far, I did have a couple of beers with Glenn though. I am hitting the road in a couple of days, I might leave spotting for when I come back to SYD around the 23th of November. If anybody wants to contact me though I am staying at the Vulcan Hotel, room 309.
Cheers

Hi Chris,
You're welcome to come back at anytime!
Managed to catch up with Javier. It's a real pity for him the weather wasn't at it's best.... we're in a drought, and the rain has only come down while he was here.
Good for us, bad for him.
I hope to catch up again when he comes back from his drive up north.
Quoting QANTAS077 (Reply 9): that tour might include a game of pool n some beer at Glenn's office! game on mate when i come over in january!?
You're going to be here for New Year's Eve by any chance Monty?
