The £ represents the British pound. The current exchange rate is about 1.7 of the greenbacks to every Pound.

Thus you will earn in the region of 95 funny S thingies for your 56 weird little Ls.

56.00 GBP (United Kingdom Pounds) = $99.81 USD (United States Dollars)

All you have to do is punch in the numbers on any currency calculator.

The £ represents the British pound.

It is a modified 'L', deriving from the Latin word 'Libra' or 'Libra pondo', meaning a weight of some sort from Roman times. The symbol 'lb' for a pound of weight has the same origin. It's amazing the rubbish you can learn from watching telly  Smile .

Flight International require that you register as a "supplier" with them before you are able to invoice them for the payment. For the sake of just £56 it wasn't worth my time, so I just gave them my image free.

If you're keen on receiving your fee be careful to understand what their requirements are.

Tasmin,

Can you go into more detail about becoming a register supplier for them? I also got the 56 email and am curious about this.

Thanks,
Adam

here's the e-mail:

"Hi Eric

I am the London based group art editor of Flight International magazine. We would like to publish your NetJets Cessna 750 Citation X picture on Airliners.net in this week's magazine - we will pay you around £56 and credit you. Is this okay? Please let me know ASAP and provide your contact details for payment.

If it is okay, can you send a higher rez scan - 20cm wide by 305dpi.

Regards

Doesn't mention anything about registering as a supplier.

here's the e-mail:

Perhaps they have changed their policy, perhaps not. I sent my details exactly as your email requested, but later learned about the registration process. Of course I know little of that process because I decided not to bother with it.

I know many others who have been through that process, I could ask them, or even better you should check with your contacts at FI, who can help you out.

Good luck.

Thanks Tamsin, I guess I'll just see how this plays out. If I'm still peniless in 2 weeks I'll have to give this guy a holler and see what needs to be done.

But, like you, I am also too lazy to want to register at the moment Big grin

The registration thing is accounting and internal control stuff by the looks of it. They just need to know who they are paying and have some audit trail. No prizes for guessing what I do during the day.

Ok now I'm pissed off, I sent my invoice and photo the day he sent me his first e-mail (like right when I read it, and I check my e-mail every 5 hours or so), the reply I got today was "Thanks for your reply and offer but I needed the image yesterday as we were going to press, hopefully we can work together in the future."

Now I'm worried about image theft.

Theft? You sent it to HIM. Smile I doubt they will stop their production run to include your photo, that costs $$.

As to payment, I've had some take 30-60 days before they draft a check. Common business cycle. Two weeks would be a miracle.

Perhaps "Conned" is more the right word. Tell me they need it so I send it, then tell me they don't, then print it anyway without sendint cash kinda thing.

Of course, but why would they e-mail me (this guy is from britain) while I'm asleep, then when I wake up and send the e-mail (literally ten minutes after I wake up) it's already too late? Seems like he didn't have his sh!t together if you know what I mean.

I figured it'd take awhile, but the most I've had to wait for a check is 3 weeks. ALPA sent the check within a week.

With Flight International I don't think you'd have to worry about that. If they use your photo they'll pay.

I've waited 3 months with some accounts, it varies.

I highly doubt such a high profile Aviation magazine such as this would 'steal' a photo.

Isn't he saying that he went to print without your image - maybe he used somebody else's instead?

I guess he was working to tight deadlines, put several feelers out, and ran with the first to deliver. This is typical media practice and as far as I can see, given that he's the cutomer, nothing wrong with it at all.

I've had several images used by Flight and always got paid without having registered as a supplier.
56 GBP is better than what most magazines pay, especially the hobby magazines.
