was looking for Sigma 28-300mm for my Nikon film camera. Basically interested because of the wide range, but then a fellow A.nutter advised that results won't be as sharp as would be with 70-200/300mm. Save me money but does anybody have more information about these lenses. I already have 35-70mm with my camera, so not that keen on wide angle, but more interested in A.net kind of quality.

I have no experience with the 28-300 but as a consumers lens it can't be compared to the 70-200/2.8 and 100-300/4.0 which are both excellent pieces of glass.
You are looking at a different price tag though of about 4 times as high.

I have not used this particular lens but I've heard that the quality is not that good because of the 11x zoom range.
There was a time though that I felt the need for this lens but not for aviation photography. In fact I wanted it for my amateur photography of the demonstrations in Beirut earlier in the year since the quality was not that big of an issue and I thought the versatility is more important. It was being a pain to change lenses all the time and carrying a big photo bag.
There are photos though in the database here taken with this and the similar Tamron 28-300. You have the wide end covered so probably it's best if you went for something like 70-300/70-200-ish range.
