Hi all,

Yesterday i got the following message sent through airliners.net:

"Hello, my name is Daniel Watkins and I'm a college student. I would like to use the thumbnail version of your picture for a non-profit project for one of my classes. You will be given credit for the photo on the project. Please reply if this is NOT ok. Thank you."

Does this look familiar ?? To me it looks like some scam i saw a few months ago with business jets, and as the pic he was referring to was from a business jet... it looks fishy

Anyway, i've requested some more data before taking a final decision. But sincerely, someone who says something like what's above doesn't deserve much credit.

Regards

Francisco Leitão

Yea, be cautious. Sure would suck to see that thumbnail pic on a billboard someplace.  Silly

Just say yes. Since he's not asking for a highres, I think you'd be ok (unless they somehow manage to get a thumbnail stretched to a magazine cover at 300dpi...not gonna happen).

Yes, I did receive the same message. It was related to one of my latest pic an airliner.

I got the exact same message also, relating to a recent airline picture.

I can't say if its for real or not. However I once had to ask permission to use photos for a project, so it can be true.

If anyone was wondering I was granted permission.

Hi All,

I also have received the exact same message regarding a recent shot of a Biz Jet. It may well be a genuine request but this guy seems to be asking quite a few people and I am now just slightly suspicious so have asked for more details.

I wonder how many other people he has contacted ?

John

Uhh guys isn't he asking for a thumbnail? If so, what can you do with a 100 pixel wide thumbnail?

Hi all,

I was contacted as well by Mr. Watkins with regard to shot of a BA A321. Just replied to him that - given it's a non-profit project - he could use the picture if he properly credited the photographer.

Oh well, it might also be a "college project" to analyse people's behavioral attitude towards e-mails in which they are clearly asked NOT to reply if everything is ok.  Wink
