Stuck Filter

Had a very minor accident last night which resulted in the shattering of a UV haze filter. I've gotten all the broken glass out (very carefully so as not to scratch the front element) so I can photograph, but now the filter ring is stuck to the front of the lens. I'm afraid I might have accidentally crossthreaded it in which case I'm in for a fun time, but not sure yet. Any hints?

I had this happen. It resulted me taking my 17-40 apart to pry the filter thing off the front of the lens. It wasnt fun, but all is good and works like a dream still.
