With all these year-end threads, I thought I'd start one about our beloved equipment. If you made an upgrade this year (or if Santa is bringing you one tomorrow), post some details here! Feel free to plug a shot from your new gear if you would like!
For me - I sold my Canon Digital Rebel (300D) on E-Bay after purchasing a Canon 20D. I also picked up my first L glass - the 70-200 F4, as well as a 50mm 1.8 and a 2.0x extender.
My new 20D and 70-200 F4 L combination was used to capture this image:
...just nice for window views on a full-frame body. And for other types of photography.
I've also got a 20D - my first digital body - last month which will be used mainly for non-aviation stuff as well, although I might bring it along to the airport for creative stuff. Side-ons are still reserved to slides for me ...but if I like it that might perhaps change .

Got my first DSLR in June of this year (350D) along with the EF-S 18-55mm kit lens and my EF 100-300mm. Upgrade was from my beloved Minolta Dimage Z2. The result is 30 shots on here so far with this being my first:

I downgraded my gear
Because my stupid ass Digital Camera went faulty over the summer, I am back to shooting Prints with my old 1979 Nikon EM Camera with my 60-300 Tamron lens.. How depressing of a year for me. I also threw all my money away for school to afford something that many of you folks shoot with: A DSLR.
I am hoping that next year can bring some better luck.
In a few days, BOXING DAY I may buy a new digital camera but it will be an ultraslim so still no good for aviation.
Expanding my global domination one spotter at a time..

Sold my D30 and the Vivitar 19-35mm, since I never really shoot wide angle anymore. Kept the 28-135 IS, and bought:
Canon 10D with battery grip
Sigma 70-300 DG APO, which was sold in favor of:
Canon 70-200 f/4L, and 1.4X II extender
Canon 50 f/1.8 II
Canon Rebel G (my reintroduction into film, after ceasing use of the Pentax ME a while back)
and the oddity:
Sigma 600mm f/8 Reflex
--This one is going to get punted pretty soon, though, as I just didn't end up using it, though it does have some interesting near-macro capabilities--i.e., not really enough magnification to be true macrophotography, but you can shoot from across the room, rather than right up near your subject.
And then, of course, I bought a Tamrac 613 to haul all that crap around in, which I think is the biggest bag you can actually fit under an aircraft seat, so now the question is--just how much gear can I stuff inside it?

I had the Canon 300D with its kit lens (18-55mm) at the beginning of the year. Early in 2005 I decided to change my camera body and started looking at the 20D. I bought it a few months later, in April, along with a Tamron 28-75, which is a pretty decent lens for the money I'd say.
That was one of the first pictures I got with my new combo (20D and 100-400). I was pretty happy with it, since I got this shot from runway 24R while it was landing on the left side.

My only lens upgrade was from the 18-55 kit lens to a 17-40L, which was definitely worth it.
Furthermore I bought a Speedlite 430EX. I really like it, really was more than necessary to get an external flash for non-av shooting.
I admit, wanted to buy the 580EX at first, but I instead decided to buy a 40GB PD7X image tank, from fellow A.net user Dean Barnes. Thanks by the way!
I'm still looking forward the the "20D replacement" supposed to come in February / March, decided not upgrading to a 20D if there could be another good camera following soon.
Happy shooting to all of you with your new equipment Santa brought, good conditions and sales to all of you.

Well now that I have some money from Christmas and birthday, I think its time for me to go out and buy a film scanner. I have had my eye on the Minolta Dimage Scan Dual IV for a while now, and now that I finally have some money, I will be ordering it in the next few days. Sure will be nice to start uploading shots again, since I gave up with my flatbed scanner about 4 months ago.

Quoting Fsgay (Reply 7): Sold my D30 and the Vivitar 19-35mm
Hey....that is the exact same package I had! Although I still use the Vivitar. I upgraded to a 100-400L in 2005 (and 10D in late 2004). I really need a better wide-angle lens though. That is on my list for 2006 and maybe a 20D or whatever comes out at PMA in February - don't know yet. I like the wide EF-S lens but the problem I would need to get the 20D to use it.

Got a 350D with the 18-55 in November, quite a step up from a Powershot A40, I still have my Minolta X-700 with Exakta 28-300 that I haven't used in years but the 350D is great fun! Santa lost my letter asking for the zoom lens though.....
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

In March 2005 I started with an Olympus C-765, then upgraded to the 300D + 75-300 in May, then bought the 70-200 f/4 in Sep. and I also added the 10-20 from Sigma, but I have yet to try that one out!
Now I am thinking of adding the 50-500 from Sigma for 2006.
