Good morning all,

I just woke up to find an email from one of our members advising me that one of my photos was used on Avweb.com. Normally I would be happy that others are enjoying my work but this was a case of my photo being used/stolen without my permission. I have included what I wrote to Kevin Garrison (the articles writer) Tim Coles (the publisher of Avweb.com) and to Johan. This sort of thing has to stop. I have never really been a big fan of watermarking the photos but we (Airliners.net members) need to come up with a viable solution.

I will keep everyone updated as or if this happens.

Kind regards,
Brian_ga

Hello Kevin,
I have included what I wrote to Tim Coles - Publisher of Avweb.com. This article used one of my photographs off of Airliners.net without any permission from me.

I have always enjoyed reading the articles on Avweb.com but never knew that the photos stolen like this.

Can you please explain yourself??

I have included everything written here to the Publisher and President of Airliners.net. Also I have posted on the aviation photography forum so everyone can see what has happened.

Please either pull my photo or contact me to work out a price for it's usage.

You have my contact information and I await a response.

Regards,
Brian Harrison

Hello Johan,

I am writing you to inform of another unauthorized photo usage from your database. Avweb.com has published an article using photoid:518248. This picture was taken by me at the TPA airport back on January 4, 1989. It shows a NW727-251 missing an engine due to the ingestion of 'blue ice' from the lav. No one from Avweb.com has ever contacted me about the usage of this photo. I know this sort of thing has been going on for some time now but this is the first time it has hit me. I have copied you in on the email that I sent to Tim Cole and have posted on the aviation photography forum so others can see yet another website abusing this practice of stealing without permission.

I am not sure what you can do but any help would be thankful.

Kind regards,
Brian Harrison

Hello Tim,
I would kindly ask why you and your website AVweb.com have used my photo of a Northwest 727 missing an engine due to 'blue ice' without my permission????

This picture was taken from the Airliners.net website without the acknowledgement of either my copywrited name or the Airliners.net logo at the bottom of the photo. I am asking that you remove 'my' picture from your website immediately.

It's not hard to find me if someone would have asked around. I have been a member of Airliners.net for 5 years and unfortunately this practice of just using/stealing photographs off of other websites has gotten out of hand.

I would be happy to discuss a price for the usage of my photograph if someone would have simply asked.

I also have copied Johan Lundgren the Founder and President of Airliner.net and posted this exact email on the Airliners.net aviation photography forum. I plan on keeping everyone updated with the progress of this.

If someone would like to contact me my address is:

Brian_Harrison@bellsouth.net

I await for your response.

Thank you,
Brian Harrison

It's surprising (and extremely disappointing) to see a once-reputable site like avweb stealing photos. My respect for them just went right down the toilet.

To all, it appears that AvWeb has removed Brian's photograph of the 727-251 and replaced it with a picture of a ramper dumping a lav...

Just got an email from Tim Coles at Avweb.com. He apologized for what had happened and has offered to pay me $35.00usd for my photo. My respect for them just went back up. It is good to see that some websites still take some pride in what they publish.
