The last I heard, everything was still a go. Unfortunately for me I just found out that I won't be able to go as I have to attend a groundschool from 8:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M. If it gets cancelled, I'll sure as hell drive down to Chicago to meet up with you guys.

Tim

Yeah, there's 55th, Central, 63rd, Cicero....  bigthumbsup

As of right now, I'm planning to be there. There won't be much ATA action, but I bet if we're patient we'll see a WN 737 or two...!

I am actually considering heading to ORD as well. I did some housecleaning in my ORD folders and threw 14 photos in the queue last night (I was bored, can ya tell?). 737's at MDW are neat and all - but A340's, 747's and 777's go into O'Hare one right after another. I might be lured up there by the sheer presence of heavies.

Seriously - as for spotting at MDW, the park at 63rd and Central is pretty good (provided they're using rwy 4/22), and the retail areas on Cicero are pretty cool for 13 arrivals. The new parking deck is open, I'm curious to see what the view is like from the 7th floor of that thing.

So if you're going, please post it on this thread! (If I have anything to do with it - we'll meet at Portillo's!!!)  bigthumbsup

Ouch, I'll be missing Portillos in addition to jets. If any of you are interested is a meet in Feb. I would be able to do that. I was looking forward to meeting up in MDW but then my schedule was changed. Maybe I'll get Saturday off  optimist

If you have anything to do with it we'd just spot from Portillo's... not that I blame you...

Bruce,
You gonna come down for the meet? It'd be cool to meet you, and see your new gear!

How do I get to Portillos? And is this gonna be the official meeting spot? What time are you all gonna get there?

We do need to figure out a proper meeting spot. The nearest Portillo's (not that I'm lobbying for Portillo's or anything  hyper  ) is on Harlem just off of Archer . . . it's about 10 minutes from MDW.

Actually, come to think of it - where the hell will we meet??? One or two photographers aren't that big of a deal, but if we have a busload turn up - that could turn the Special Police's head a little bit!

I can run interference for a little while since I'm MDW badged and have airline photographer badges (as does my pal / co-worker Charlie), maybe that will keep them in check.

Anyone have any ideas?

Drew

Drew, I am curious as to how you go about getting an airline photographer badge. It'd be my guess that things change from airline to airline, but are there any generic procedures that you know of?

I own a company that does flightline work on the aircraft, and we have contracts with airlines. As a part of that - I do freelance aviation photography. As a SIDA badged contractor, I have them put "Official Photographer" on our badges.

One day I was spotting at O'Hare, on public property. The police quickly showed up - and were getting really antsy with me because I had a scanner and a transceiver. Once I showed them the badges, they quickly apologized and told me to have a lovely day. I had a fellow a.net photographer with me at the time, and they didn't even mess with him. They didn't even question the scanner (I've heard it's illegal to have a scanner in a car in Illinois). We were able to get some nice shots that day:

As far as getting a photographer badge when you're not associated with the airline - I think that might be a slippery slope to climb. I'm sure it can be done, and I'll ask around - but I don't think it's very easy.

Come spotting with me and I'll cover you though!!  bigthumbsup

Cool. I am working with an airline in Milwaukee and I do have a SIDA badge, but I don't want to push my luck.

Thanks for the offer, I'll have to take you up on it. I wanted to make my way down to Chicago this weekend but I am in class from Thursday-Monday; they will be over in early February. Despite the weather forecasts, good luck to you all at MDW this weekend.

Hey fellas, how did the meet go? I'm guessing the wx wasn't too good down at MDW - it was overcast up here in MKE. Hopefully you guys got some shots despite the weather.

Drew, are you just in chicago for a day or two, or do you work there for good? I thought you were based at FWA.

I am based in FWA - but I travel. A lot. Got stuck in ATL on Friday - it ruined my weekend. I didn't even get to go out to MDW.

I will be in Chicago on Wednesday of this week though!
