Hi all,

I have this one in the que. Problem on upload was that at minumum/maximum compression(ie set at 12) the file size was 1043kb. I knocked it down to 11, which was 650kb. Is there noticeable jpeg compression on this one? I uploaded at 1200x for more detail.

The quality looks ok to me. Can you see a visible difference between this and the larger file?

I tend to save at a setting of 10, the smaller of the maximum settings.

Ah! Well if that's your criteria, then I would take my advice with a pinch of salt too!

Hey! It looks great. A little unlevel but no jpeg compression that I can see.

Hello Colin - keeping well I hope.

I am intrigued that this photo was over 1 MB at 12. I have never had that experience myself, and I always make sure that I save at the highest quality setting. Do you know what caused that?

I agree that there doesn't seem to be a significant jpeg compression issue. But I do think the aircraft could possibly be a bit sharper (might be helped by having the edit at 1024 size), and I would say from an eyeball of the photo that there is a need for some CW rotation too - too many of those background verticals are leaning to the left.

Take good care.

Paul

This does happen to me occasionally. I believe this pic was one occasion:

Somewhat complicated backgrounds do the trick I suppose. I think saving these pics at 11 doesn't hurt too much. But I wouldn't do it as standard Sean!

Hello

When I save my pictures at 1200x , they always pass the 1MB mark , so it's better to resize to 1024x , so you can save at max. 12 !

But I don't see a big loss in quality when you save at 11 !

Cheers

Tom

I must admit I don't see much of that jpeg compression problem. Maybe the screener mistook the exhaust behind the engines or the blurry upper parts of the background as a jpeg compression issue. In any case, the shot is good but not fantastic. If this is an aircraft that we have lots of photos of already in the database, you'll see that our requirements are pretty high and this one might not make it as it does not, in my view, have that little extra.

Johan

The addtional jpeg compression from saving at quality 11 is almost imperceptible. I always try to save at quality 12, but I don't mind using 11 if needed, since the quality is hardly affected. Of course, as Johan said, the quality of this shot isn't that high. I think you'd be better off keeping it at 1024 px. wide and then you wouldn't have to worry about saving at quality 11 anyway.
