Just curious what you guys think about this photo. Does it have any "artistic" quality to it or is just another tail shot? As usual, any comments are welcome.

Really neat CYKA - never really seen a DHC-8 up close like that.
One critique I may offer is the strong contrast. The aircraft's tail blends too much with the dark shade from passing clouds on the hill. If you have Photoshop or some other similar program, try manipulating the "levels" a bit to slightly lighten the backdrop.

Yeah I noticed the contrast thing after uploading so if it gets rejected I'll fix it and re-submit it. If it gets accepted I'll just replace it with the better one.
One thing I just noticed is that the leading edge of the fin seems to have peeled off on the side that I took this picture from. I dont think it's normal as I havent noticed it before. The plane left a couple minutes after I took this photo so either everyone missed it or im seeing things......

Looks to me like a different coloured piece of metal sheeting - patchwork. Look closely - it fits perfectly on the side of the tail.... at least I hope so - for the passenger's sake.

seen such things quite a lot on NWA DC10s. Old birds, other aircraft are probably scrounged for parts when they need one back in the air quickly.
With contracts for paint going to the lowest bidder, there are slight differences in colour between different aircraft (and so sometimes between different panels in a single aircraft).

Nice pic in terms of quality - the contrast is debatable -yes the background is a bit of a problem, but I think the solution results in losing some of the pic's "punch".
As regards "artsy-ness", I'm afraid the composition doesn't work for me. I think it is vital that an arty shot must be complete in itself - ie, your eye is drawn and held by the subject. In this case, I'm afraid I'm looking for the rest of the plane! That line formed by the leading edge from the wingtip to the border just draws the eye out of the picture.
