So, to live up to the title, here is my question:
I have a Panasonic FZ20. This has a 12x zoom Leica lens built into it, which is nice for when objects are a bit in the distance. But in order to get a nice photo of a plane trailing contrails over the sky, I find that 12x zoom is rarely enough.
Therefore, is it possible to purchase another lens to go on this camera, which would enable me to take better close up photos of objects far in the distance? Or would it be like taking photos through a pair of binoculars...?
Advice is much appreciated.

Thom@s,
You can get extension lenses for P&S cameras. However they usually degrade image quality quite a bit. I find that sometimes shots from my 1dmkii/100-400 with a 1.4x convertor arn't up to anet standards.
To be honest the money would probably be better spent put towards a DSLR.
The panasonic FZ20 is a great little camera tho, a friend of mine has the Leica equivilent and it is beautiful!

With extension lenses you get what you pay for, and with the cheaper lenses it's not always good quality. Panasonic do make an extension lens (1.5x) for the FZ 20, but it's around US$500 on their website and other retailers.

They seem quite expensive. I recall that accessories for the Canon P&S I had were pretty pricey too. Maybe as Chris says, try and save up for a nice DSLR.

Quoting Granite (Reply 6): Come visit Aberdeen with a credit card and I will take you around the stores then go for some photography afterwards.
Hehe, I'll think about it.

Yeeeaaaah... see, the thing about that is... Hehe, I've moved out, but a lot of my stuff is still at "home", so I'm afraid it's probably in a box somewhere.
Will put it up once I'm settled in a permanent appartment. (If I can find the box it's in)
