I have an older TamronrnAF 28-200 1:3.8-5.6 and obviously cannot use it with my Nikon D70. Thernproblem is that it works fine at a focal length of 28mm, but the more Irnzoom out the more problems I get focusing on things, meaning that it's not possible to get a sharp view at 200mm. The lens however seems to be working fine if I focus on things that are quite near, even at 200mm.
I already checked whether this could be an AF problem switching my camera to the 'M' mode, but that didn't have any effect.
I know it might be quite obvious to you what the problem is, but please explain it to me. Any comments much appreciated!

Just checking - sometimes lenses "for Nikon" aren't really so compatible - you're sure it is meant to be compatible with Nikon bodies right?
In any case, I have experienced something similar with a cheap old zoom (can't remember the brand) on my otherwise perfectly functioning D70, where it would not autofocus at all. On older analog SLR's such as the F90x and the antique F601, the lens worked but was not really of a high quality.
No idea why this problem seems to occur, but that's I guess where the price difference comes from: old Nikon-branded lenses will certainly work on the D70 (I know from experience) but I guess there is something in the body-lens-interface that has changed with Digital, that makes it difficult to work with certain 3rd-party lenses produced before the digital era?
Not really helpful, but I don't think there's anything you can do about this...

Well I am sure it is compatible with Nikon bodies, otherwise I probably couldn't fit it onto the camera. What just leaves me clueless is that I am able to focus on things that are close, whereas the lens doesn't provide any sharp views of objects that are in the far distance.
This isn't my primary lens anyway, but still I wanted to have this sorted out.
