Just visited the Oceana Airshow website which is now set up for the 2006 season and saw with great delight   but also some disbelief that an F-14 Tomcat Tactical demonstration is listed in the performers section for the show.
Anybody there to confirm this?

I doubt it. If you look at the bar on the windows bar on the bottom of your screen it reads "2005 Oceana Airshow".

...and the F-86 Sabre flown by Dale Snodgrass may also be a no show too as it just did a left main gear up landing last saturday.

You don't think they can fix that by September?

I work right next to Oceana, and I have seen a few random F-14s tooling around in the past couple of weeks. Sad to see them go, but they are old and due for a rest. Still way cool to see them.

I saw an f-14 do a swept-wing 700mph low pass at a local airshow...very impressive!
just one short question: how is photography at Oceana Airshow, any decent places? What would be the best airport to fly from EU to go to the show?
Hi Robin,
Photography wise, it’s decent. You are fairly close to the runways and the sun is behind you for the majority of the show. If you go, I suggest paying the $25(?) for the premium seating… This tent has all the food you can eat included in the fee.
I would suggest flying into IAD, renting a car and driving down.

Easy! Fly wherever from Europe to Wash-Dulles then take United Express feeder flight from Dulles to Norfolk/Virginia Beach Airport. (KORF) Or if you want to fly to Baltimore/Washington (KBWI) then hop on a Southwest flight to ORF.

Lot's of good places to shoot at the airshow. In fact, you'll see hundreds of photographers all lined up along the fence, can't miss 'em. During non-airshow days, there are several places around the proximity of the airport where you can take pictures, if you don't have a government I.D. card. Oceana has an observation memorial park off of Oceana Blvd (not the one just after the main gate) where you can possibly get decent shots. I've been stationed here for nearly 4 years and never been there. I'm not much of a military photographer. Another location is approx. 1/2 miles from the intersection of Oceana and Virginia Beach Blvd. around a "bend." I've seen photographers at this location during non airshow days on my way to work. I work on the flightline, so the only time you can get on the ramp is either being escorted or have a green sticker to get access.

Quoting Maiznblu_757 (Reply 11): The Tomcats will be there. Ill try to find out if there will be some fly bys, although I am quite sure there will be.
Thanks Chad! You're a real day-saver!
I did not plan to go to a US Airshow this year but with the Tomcats being at Oceana there's no way around.
Any hints on planning the trip (car rental, hotels, day at the show,...) to Oceana are most welcome!

Thierry,
Make your reservations early. It’s a big show. As I told Robin, your best bet would be to fly into IAD and rent a car and drive down to VA Beach. Your air fare should be a bit less expensive.

I just talked to some buddies of mine from VF-31 this afternoon during work, there is a possible chance for a fly-by only, no F-14 tac demo, and not too sure about a static display, where as it's waay to early to determine. You'll have to contact the airshow coordinator for more information or check on our website from time to time.
Thanks
Regards,
Kevin
P.S. Are you planning on coming to the airshow, Chad?
