Hey,
Got some questions for you IS users on the 100-400L and the 70-200 2.8L well first of all..is there any difference in performance of the IS on these two lenses?

and in general..what is the max you can use the IS for? for example could i really get a nice crisp shot at night of a plane sitting still on the ramp without a tripod and just the IS lense? Could i really shoot wide open without a tripod at real low light situations and get crisp shots?

thx for the input..

Stephen

Yes you can get crisp shots but it all depends on how far you have zoomed out and how much light there is .
Don't use IS when the lens is mounted on a tripod its not needed and will make the picture worse .
The vibration of the IS when its mounted on a trio pod will make the image look blurry so turn it off if you are going to mount it.

I actually tried it with the IS on, the IS tends to cause the lens to oscillate in a wave motion.

If you mean night as in very dark, no.

The IS will only help you about two stops of shutterspeed. If you can normally handhold at say 1/60 you could roughly make 1/15 with IS on.
