Why is it every time I get the chance to shoot at AMS, the weather is crap? I got out there this afternoon about 5.45 and the weather was glorious. A dozen shots later and the temperature drops by 10deg and a huge bank of fog drifts in from nowhere! mad

Why does AMS hate me?

For the same reason LHR and BRS hate me For some reason I've struggled in the same way as you. Now I try to get as detailed a weather report as possible before I head out, and keep trying too. It's sod's law that if you only go once in a blue moon, you'll be battling rain/snow/hurricanes/earthquakes.

EDIT: P.S. Here's one of my old rants to prove it!

You are not alone, my friend... whenever I am on a biztrip in AMS, the sun shines perfectly while I am working. 15 Minutes before I finally go to the airport (with enough spare time to take photos), the sun is gone  yuck  Yeah....

Typical! My last chance is tomorrow for an hour or so before my flight back to London. Grrr.

Looks like I need to justify another business trip in a couple of weeks. wink

Awww, poor Amsterdamers. They have bad weather, beautiful planes you can get nowhere else in Europe (like the KLM 777), millions of runways & gazillions of beautiful spots. It could be worse.  Wink

They have bad weather

The clouds rise to cross the Dutch Alps. The temperature inside the clouds falls, the moisture precipitates out, the result is rain and fog.

So today started gloriously while I'm in the office. In about 3 1/2 hours I will leave the office and head out to the airport with my camera ready. Guess what, it's already cloudy! mad

Of course you do! Most of the time, they are not visible.

Man, I can talk about it to..

I planned a trip to Schiphol on sunday morning, so I checked the weather at friday and saturday to make it sure.
Weather predictions 20*C and sunny.

I woke up with one heck of a cloud layer above my house, but because I live 100km east of Schipol, everything can change during the trip time.

So, I drove off to Schiphol with the sun starting to come through, but when I did come closer and closer to Schiphol, those darn clouds showed up.
If I stayed at our local airport, I had sun all day long, and more chnaces to get some descent shots!

I hope we will get a nice summer though, so I can take proffits from it to go there every single sunny day!!

have a good day, Stefan van Hierden

I know about the Dutch weather too unfortunately. So on my free days I just went to Schiphol in the very early morning to spend an entire day there (Kaagbaan) so I ended up coming home at night. Also, bad weather can sometimes give you very nice water effects or fog effects as can be seen on many photos in the database here. So bad weather doesn't necessarily means your shots will be awful. You just have to find that lucky moment.

I for one wish I still lived there, unfortunately Curacao doesn't offer me the opportunities I was used to back in Holland. But ow well, everything has its pros and cons in life so I'm not complaining. My next trip will be Aruba for some nice aircraft photography at the beach! Aruba has lots of aircraft movement too for such a small island Big grin

Because the predominant wind is from the west which is causing the Irish and English fog to end up over here Big grin

Great, I like the cloudy scenery besides heat and sun are no good for photography anyway  Wink

Have fun,

The only time I was there, it looked bad but turned out good in the end, with very special effect because of dark clouds and wet runway!
