Hello.
Ian - yes - 24L/06R will close between 12 and 3pm.
I have just checked and the forecast is decent for tomorrow. But they have already switched to 06L for departures, and I believe the forecast is for the wind from the north, so I reckon it is a high likelihood that your plane will depart from 06L, Noel.
For anyone who is there who wants to help Noel out, I would suggest a walk up from the 24L threshold (mounds) towards a position opposite the ATC Tower, so that you can get a shot like this:
I have a few shots of Singapore departures from 06L from this spot, and they all appear to rotate from a similar kind of position - I would say midway between opposite the mound and this position opposite the Tower, close to Moss Lane.
Childcare permitting (which I think it won't) I may try to nip down. I hope this helps.
Cheers.
Paul
P.S. Colin - my Met Office forecast has Tuesday as cloudy, but not rainy! If that is so one consolation might be that your shots aren't heat hazed to b***ery. If the sun is out this weekend, and it is getting warm now, and the wind is from the north, that smacks of a significant temperature differential - perfect conditions for the dreaded heat haze.

Why is it going to be 'closed'.

Hope you MAN guys have got your forecast sun, we were also forecast cloudless skies this morning but surprisingly have woken up to find it overcast, typical forecasters; I guess its a blessing in disguise as I have too much work on to go to the airport anyway

Ben - it is a lovely day up here. But - as also forecast - the heat haze is really out as well, so playing havoc with the photographs.
Noel - I was able to nip down for an hour, and in that time saw you jet off. I haven't looked at the results yet and - because of the heat haze - I am not sure if the results will be appropriate for uploading. But do contact me on your return and I will happily let you have a copy of the shots.

From T3 its hard to get there if you don't have a car and I'm not actually sure you can walk there from the mounds...I'm not a MAN expert but I'm sure others on here will be able to give you a better response.
just checked my shots from today, quite pleased with them, heat haze on a few of them.

Hi Colin,
If the 06 runways are in use, the best place to be on a morning is still on the southside, just that they are landing in front of you instead of taking off. From the threshold of 24L, you can follow the path alongside the runway pretty much its entire length, apart from having to come down and cross the road near the Moathouse hotel.
If you walk North along the perimeter fence from the theshold of 24L, back onto Moss Lane, after you pass the farmhouse, there is a footpath that leaves the lane on the left. If you go up here there is a spot where you have a clear shot of 06R take-offs, but you'll probably need 250-300mm I would say.
Alternatively, to catch them landing on 06R, after 06L has shut at 12pm, from the southside of 24L/06R, walk under the large river Bollin tunnel that goes under the runway and up the hill on the other side.

Hi Paul
Cool stuff! Thanks for that, we are now sitting in Singapore airport waiting for our connecting flight! It is 27C at 7.20am and I can't read any regs off from where I'm sitting Lots of SQ and Silkair though, I will have a better chance on the way back!
Flight was very long but comfortable, another one in an hour but at least this is only 10 hours!
We saw loads of people at the AVP as we taxied past, dozens of camera lenses pointing at our aircraft!
Cheers,
Noel
