I went to check out spottersunited.com and to my surprise, the site is not there anymore. So I was wondering if anyone has some good spots to take photos from at TPA and what times of the day are each spot to shoot at? Thanks for your help.

Quoting Sleekjet (Reply 3): Joey: In August, would 18R be the most-used runway?
Joey does not have a username on A.net. You must've meant Justin. 18R/36L is generally the most used runway except for right now till May 18th because 18R/36L is closed till then. It's heaven.
Quoting INTENSS (Reply 2): I'm coming down there this week....let's get a bunch of local photogs together for a day of Tampa shooting.
I was just about to email you Rich. Joey told me you were coming down next weekend. Pending weather, count me in. I want to try some more 18L rotation shots.

Yesterday: Not winter... VERY Sunny. This was yesterday:
First off, to the DL Hanger:
Met up with Rich, Richard and Ozell there.
Then we went to the Raytheon Area:
Then off to Chilis for lunch and then Richard went off to visit his mom for a while and Ozell went home for a short bit while Rich and I went to the park to just watch planes and chat while the sun made its transition over the western sky. Finally it did and Joey showed up as well. Later, Richard came back too.
We also saw some other nice sights at the park/beach:
Others were enjoying the day too:
We then went to the garage for a bit as they changed the runway direction and got BA:
Then after going downstairs, getting a couple tacos for a snack and eyeing some very fine British girls who were probably getting back on the BA flight later, we went back upstairs to see they changed the runway direction again. So we went to the economy lot:
About the 4th time we saw this plane:
Joey waving and yawning to the airplanes:
The group enjoying the day:
And the best way to end the day:
And a group shot to boot:
Left to Right: Ozell, Joey, Rich, Richard, and myself
SO all in all, it was a blast. Come to TPA and we'll try to show you this much fun too!

I wish i could have been to join in the fun. I was without cash and gas this last weekend. I am heading to ZRH for the July meet and going to try to meet with people on my days off in Jun if anybody would like. I have not done any TPA stuff in a while. Need to get back down there.

Ok just trying to get my bearings
I found the fishing hole, doesn't look quite as dangerous as described in the Google thingy, in fact it appears to be where the construction people are parking their cars.
Though the shots seem rather limited, either long lens (300+) or very short (70-100) because of the trees in the way. I might try the beach out one of these days.
The Raytheon area (18L Morn Depart) is that dirt lot behind Gate Gourmet, over near One Buc Place?

You got the right area. But there is no longer such a thing as 18L departures anymore since they reopened 18R/36L. All that area is good for is 36R morning departures.

Quoting PPGMD (Reply 19): Oh I noticed you shot at SRQ, where do you park over there?
I'll let Ozell talk about that one. We were there yesterday. But we weren't along the fence this time.
In the photo above, the plane was superimposed to give the effect of how close we were but in actuallity, thats about what it looked like. haha. What a day

Quoting 727LOVER (Reply 18): Well, its worked for me for 3 years now.
Where do you stand and what lens do you shoot with there?
I tried couple of areas and the angles didn't really impress me that much, then again all I brought with me was my 70-200 and a teleconvertor (came from another shoot for the day).

Simply going by what was on the Google Earth file that was linked in the other thread.
I just looked man. It says 36R departures. I tried my best to make sure when I made this that it was accurate.

Too bad I didn't know, I live in Bradenton. I was at the drag races trying to get some good pan shots (got a 3 stop ND filter, low shutter speed, low DOF, very hot IMO).
At worst, you screw up and die.
25 DLX737200: I usually go there with my 100-400 and these are the kind of shots I get: Works for me.
26 727LOVER: Oh no no no no no no....please feel free to answer this one. Please show your SRQ expertise. But he asked me. But your answer works.
27 DLX737200: Dude. I don't know how to get to the spots at SRQ. I just follow you there. Remember? It's YOUR airport!!! You know the roads better than I do. -Just
