Maybe it´s not the most apropiate forum for this question, but considering the most people looking at this forum are spotting, I was just wandering how often do you go to the airport for spotting?
Now in the summer season I go about once a week, normally on Sunday when is more traffic here in IBZ

Hi Astro:

Depends on the traffic, but an average of three times a week in the high PMI season.

Anyhow, I have very busy weeks (almost everyday) and in winter I can be one month or so without using the camera.

BTW: We're almost neighbours...

There is a very fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'.

I try to go once a week to London Heathrow but I try to go different days and times so over the year I have the whole week covered.

before I transferred to another city for work, I went everyday before work and sometimes after work for 10 years. Weekends were for SFO or LAX weekends,,,,sometimes LAS and RNO on gamblers weekends.

Try to go as much as you can...ALWAYS carry a camera or video or spotter paper/pencil.

I go spotting, when there is something interesting at my "home airport" and I visit other airports when I have the time and the weather is good. In 1992 which was the spotting highlight regarding the visits of my home airport I made more than 130 visits to it. In 1999 I made the most trips to other airports:

3 visits to ZRH (Zurich)
2 visits to FRA (Frankfurt)
1 visit to MUC (Munich)
1 visit to PEK (Beijing)
6 visits to CDG (Paris Charles de Gaulle)
6 visits to LBG (Paris Le Bourget)
1 visit to ORY (Paris Orly)
2 visits to LHR (London Heathrow)
1 visit to LGW (London Gatwick)
2 visits to STN (London Stansted)
2 visits to MAN (Manchester)
1 visit to BOH (Bournemouth)
1 visit to QLA (Lasham)
1 visit to CVT (Coventry)
2 visits to SEN (Southend)
1 visit to Speyer

and certainly visits of my "home airport" (I haven't counted the visits...)

On average, maybe once a week. Don't have time for more, really.

Depends on work and weather (i.e. if I can get time off during the 3 or 4 days of sunshine we have each year in England!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy).

During the summer months, I'll try to go every 2 weeks or so. However, as I get 1 week off in each month, if the weather is favourable, I'll sometimes go 2,3,4 times during that week. During the winter months, definitely less often - sometimes will go a whole month and not go at all.

Work/family/weather make any kind of routine aircraft photography impossible, but I suppose over a year I'll average one airport visit per week ... but I live near the flight path for SOU, so unless its pouring with rain, I bring the camera with me when I walk the dog - just in case! Paid off last year as I sold this opportunistic shot

to Titan (still negotiating percentages with the dog).

That's also how I got the Catalina shot in Paul's recent article on the restoration (thank's for the inclusion Paul).

Moral - NEVER be without your camera!

Hi All,

Good to see Astrojet and Tonimr are on this forum. Thought I'm one of the very few spotters/photographers from Spain here...

In summer I usually go once a week, sometimes two or three times a week. If its more, my wife starts crying, because each time it can be between 4 to 6 hours, and that's a lot.

In other times of the year it is once or twice per month. If I hear about something special coming to my home airport I try to go also, and last but not least if I know some spotter(s) come from other cities/countries.

Strangely enough I'm never spotting at my home airport (GVA for the moment) but always when I'm far away from home (regulary in PHX/LAX/NRT).

sometimes once a week, sometimes 3 times a week, and when something special is scheduled maybe 2 times a day...
btw: I live 30 km from Frankfurt airport. That´s why my family gets pi.... when I want to have the car so often...
Regards from FRA
(but now I started using slides because it doesn´t cost me anything and I didn´t want to pay so much money every week for all those prints...)

when I am not going to college I go about 5 times a week, it is just a 10 minute ride with bike, I check the flight info and decide what to do, I also like driving around airport with my bike, so a littles exercise=plane spotting=nice combination

When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward...
