Help With Identifying A U S A F Copter

Hello guys,

Today, this helicopter came to RKV to fetch fire-fighting team, to kill fire in a ship 80 miles out on the sea.

On the tail is: USAF
IS
96205

There's a problem: I don't know the c/n, and also I don't know if the helicopter is 89-6205 or 79-6205.

Could you help me with this?

At worst, you screw up and die.

That's a tough one to crack. I've no idea why, but it is:

89-26205 (cn 70-1434), a HH-60G.

The helicopter on the photo is the one I saw. But, the helicopter on the photo is not with a right register. That is, not on where the info about the helicopter is.

89-26205 should be marked 926205. But this os 96205.

That may be true (or no longer be true), but the USAF sometimes doesn't understand its own system. Anyway, you don't need bother about it for upload purposes.

Which database? According to Scramble.nl and Joe Baugher's database at http://home.att.net/~jbaugher/usafserials.html, 89-6205 does not exist.

What helicopter can this be? 89-26205 was or is based at KEF (IS) but its scheme from 2004 is very different from this 96205 scheme. Could it be, that this helcopter is the same, it was just painted and then the serial was changed?

This has an IS code as 89-26205.

Is there some kind of rule how it has to be? 89 = 1989. -6205 = serial?

Yeah, it was repainted. It's difficult to see but I think that here, in 2004, it has exactly the same serial presentation, 96205. So nothing has changed.

Well, maybe. They changed the serial presentation then, either by mistake or on purpose. 89-6205 and 89-16205 don't exist, so it doesn't matter.

Anyway, your helicopter is the same one, 89-26205, I have no doubt about that.

My bad didn't notice that the database that I was using found it by using a partial match.
