Just read the following on the official Oceana Airshow page:

Quote:

"Greetings from the NAS Oceana Air Show Team. Last year we were extremely fortunate to be able to bring you the final F-14 Tomcat Tactical Demonstration ever to be flown. The individuals that made that event happen deserve an enormous amount of credit for the hard work they put forth to bring the public the last look at what is arguably one of the most eye-watering tactical demonstrations in the world.

2006 marks the last year that this storied Fighter will be in service to her country. The Tomcat Sunset ceremony is scheduled for September 21st, 2006 and will mark the occasion of the final active F-14 being retired. There has been a massive amount of interest concerning the presence of the F-14 at the 2006 NAS Oceana Air Show and this link is intended to provide you with the most up-to-date information as to the possibility that "The Big Fighter" may show her claws one more time.

The VF-31 Tomcatters are the last F-14 Tomcat squadron and will remain an operational Fighter Squadron until the end of September 2006. The Oceana Air Show Team is working diligently to determine what level of participation is possible at the show and whether it will be static display or actually flying. We will endeavor to update this link monthly with the latest information, but please bear in mind that world events can easily change whatever plan is in place, so it’s impossible to make any promises at this point. As always, our fingers are crossed.

Regards,
CDR Rich "Corky" Erie
NAS Oceana Air Show Director"

Sounds like some good efforts are being made.  Smile

Thierry

I wonder what he means by "final F-14 Tomcat Tactical Demonstration ever to be flown?"

The Navy recently sent two F-14's (one to perform and a spare) to Opa-locka Airport to perform at the 2006 Air & Sea Show at Ft. Lauderdale beach on May 6th and 7th. Whether they performed what is called a "tactical" demonstration or not I don't know but I suspect it was. I was glad to grab as many landing and takeoff shots as I could knowing that it would be the last time, at least in South Florida. http://www.pbase.com/airlinerphotos/image/61137801

Nice photos Don, but the bird displayed on the page you link to with Felix on the tail isn't a VF-101 bird. That is a Turkey from VF-31 'Tomcatters'. The Sunset should be a great time, i'm looking forward to seeing a lot of old friends and drinking to much beer at the club.

Thanks for the correction on the squadron. I changed the description on the 20 photos of it.
