Hi all,
This is further to my last thread about a new lense.
I have established that a couple of good lenses will cost me some serious money - as I expected.
Now while I am expecting to spend a good bit of money, I am of half a mind to look at a new body at the same time too.
I currently have EOS-20D, but in RAW it's not the most speedy about.
I hear that the EOS-1D MkIIn from Canon is pretty good on the RAW at 8.5fps.
What are the others like, EOS-1DsMkII and Nikon D2X (or D2Xs)?? Obviously the new bodies have larger pixel counts, so obviously more space-hungry RAW files...
At this point in time I am not tied to any manufacturer, which is why I think if I want to get a pricey machine I can choose any one (literally).

If price is a bit of factor and you want speed (its buffer holds about 20 raw shots) and have no problem with respects to brands, I agree with Viv, the D200 would be a great buy.
The D2X is great (or so I hear, I can't afford it) but its pricey. The D200 is reasonably priced and has great performance, it does drain batteries though.
Watch out for the D2h and Canon equivalent they are basically made soley for speed and thus have less megapixels.

I've tried the Canon EOS 1D Mark II N - and I love it!
If you have enough money, I'd go for this camera. You have the 20D, and it is not-so-very-unsimilar from the 1D II N. However, it has "only" 8.2 million pixel sensor, but the noise from the pictures should be less than from the 20D as of bigger pixels on the 1D II N (1.3 crop factor).
I hear that the Nikon D2Xs is a fine camera, but I know very little about Nikon. I just like the 1D II N, and recommend it.

Ive just ordered a D2x, so im going to be biased. Ive got a 70-200mm F2.8 Vr with a 1.7TC which work well on my D50. Ive had a go with a D2x and the D2h. They are both amazing cameras imho, i couldn't believe how fast it was compared to the D50. Its also very nice to handle with the verticle grip etc.
Its 12.4mp aswell and 7mp with the High Speed Crop giving you just over 8fps (5fps with 12.4mp)
All in all its a great camera and so is the D200. The 200-400mm F4 is an amazing lens aswell (something i can't afford at the moment) .
The 70-200mm is pin sharp and fast on focusing. I like it mainly because its 2.8 allowing me to use it in virtually any situation and coupled with a 1.7tc giving me some extra focal length and then doubled by the high speed crop on the D2x
