I have stayed in two hotels in Amsterdam:

Dorint Sofitel Airport (65€ promo fare)
Van der Valk (115€)

Van der Valk is far away from the airport but well connected as it is in the motorway.

Dorint Sofitel is well located near in the perimeter road...

I don't know which budget are you thinking but NH Hotel and Radisson are also well located. From Radisson you can almost go walking (I think) to spot at RNW24.

Hope it helps.

What's the purpose of your visit? Schiphol & airplanes or Amsterdam and touristy stuff?
If you're really coming for the planes, anything at the airport or around the perimeter would be good. There's a whole bunch of them, ranging in different price categories, but I can't tell you if they're any good as I've never stayed at any of them.
- Sheraton or Hilton at Schiphol centre. Expensive, smack in the middle of the airport.
- Radisson SAS (Schiphol-Rijk), Crown Plaza (Hoofddorp), NH (de Hoek), Ibis (Badhoevedorp). Middle class, on the perimeter.
- Dorint (Badhoevedorp or Schiphol East/Maintenace area), Bastion (de Hoek), Van der Valk (highway A4). The cheaper kind, on the perimeter.

I've done the Bastion and the IBIS (on the Northern side, nr McDonalds/RWY27). Both great hotels for the price.
