I went to the airport once and got reamed by the sheriffs. Because of this I was wondering if anyone knew of any spots at HNL where I could spot without getting hassled by the sheriffs of airport security?
I know there are some HNL spotters out there, but don't know how to contact them. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

AIRLINERS.NET CREW PHOTO SCREENER
First off, welcome to Airliners.net!
The general aviation lot does get patrolled by the Sheriffs, and they do like to give photographers trouble. The best thing you can do is to try to avoid them. Be on the lookout for them, as well as the security trucks inside the perimeter.
Other than that, it is a good place to spot this time of the year. The sun is in its ideal position, giving you shots like these:

I've been a tourist at HNL a few times and had an airline ID so I was able to get past security at the Lagoon Road I think that has been mentioned. Isn't that the road that goes out to the reef runway?
Other than that, it is pretty hard to get shots of aircraft at HNL unless you are a passenger and in the terminal, in my opinion, which only counts for two cents or so.

Lagoon Drive is the street you're thinking of. Currently, the security checkpoint at Lagoon Drive goes up when the terror alert level goes up to orange or above, at yellow it is not usually there.

Welcome to Airliners.Net!
I also photograph aircraft at Honolulu International. I've never been "reamed" by security, but perhaps because I've been somewhat careful at choice of locations. Lagoon Drive is a good spot, but I've personally never used it. My main location I've used is on the base of Hickam Air Force Base. I'm in the military, so I have access to it. There is a wonderful little hill that overlooks runway 8L. Of course there is a fence, but the hill pretty much takes care of accidentally shooting it instead of the aircraft. I've spent hours in that location (which is about 100 feet from the touchdown zone) and never had a security problem. I've also photographed airplanes from the street near the old terminal and maintenance ramp, but only once and very briefly.
Unfortunately I have had little success (zero) at getting photos accepted on this wonderful web site. Quality seems to be a problem for me, even after editing the photo to get rid of digital noise. Perhaps I need a new camera. Currently I use a Sony DSC-H1 "Cyber-shot" with a separately purchased tele-photo lens. I've taken hundreds of pictures. A handful appear on myaviation.net.
