Can some one please give me directions to a good spotting location the YEG airport? I've seen some photos in the db from RW 30. If possible starting at the Edmonton mall? This is my first time in Edmonton. I really would like to see this airline called Afrinat International Airlines that Curtisman was talking about in Civ-av. I'm going on July 11th. I tried spotterswiki first but it had nothing.

thanks Smile

Hi Johnathan,
a new official view park was recently opened in
Leduc. You can watch runway 30 arrivals and 12 departures. I have not visited this place yet but I believe it should be ok. There's a few spots around the airport, runway 20 arrivals are pretty low over highway 19. There's a gravel road right under the short final approach with lights right next to it, hard to miss. Nobody will bother you there as well. For runway 12 and 02 arrivals you need to drive west on hwy 19 and turn left after the Castrol raceway and just follow the gravel road. I forget the Range Road number. Let me know if you need more info.

Ivan

Thanks Ivan. It's too late now to go as it's after 23:00 but I will keep the web page for future references when I come to YEG again. Flying to YYC tomorrow and home to YYZ on Saturday. I see that you're in Edmonton.  Smile I find the streets complicated to get around  Wink

I haven't been there, but if it's the same 'unofficial' one that's been there for years, then it's waaay too far from the action. Arrivals will be too high, and departures could be out of sight by the time they pass  pessimist  .

Does Edmonton Airport Terminal offer any good spotting?
I know they renovated and expanded it since I was last there and there seems to be a nice wall of glass from the corner part of the facility.

I am thinking of a possible trip up there for a day or two in August, Aeromexico charters?

I notice some roads going along the perimeter of the 12-30 near the QEW which You can connect thru the airport road.

Chance favors the prepared mind.

I kind of figured it would be ok for watching, photography is a different story  Smile

The old terminal had a pretty good view of the runways and the apron. Not sure if that's still open. I believe it is eventhough the signs direct you to the new terminal. The new terminal has a pretty limited view plus you're looking through a double glass so photography is poor form there.

There's roads around the whole airport, most of them give excellent shooting opportunities but the airport security can be a pain sometimes
