Hello,

http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/rejections/big/20060726_OO-TUI.jpg

The picture was rejected for being dirty. I looked several times but was never able to identify the dust spots.....
Can someone help me out please ?

Thanks
Chris

Hey Chris,

There's a quite big spot in the center right area of the photo above the wing, but only became visible by equalizing in photoshop.

I'd work a bit on the quality too, I can see that becoming the main issue next time around.

Better still, use the magic wand to select the sky and then just equalise that...dust spots are hard to miss then.
The method we use is to move the image in small circles and they show remarkably well that way too !

Thanks for the very quick answers , they are much appreciated Will correct the dust spot immediately.

Tim,

When you say work on the quality.... What should be improved ? Could you give me some hints ? Or is it a definite NO ?

Regarding the quality, you might notice that the upper flight deck area is soft and the main windows slightly jagged... so is the nose cone and the engines.

This definitely speaks against the photo being added to the database, sorry to say that. You maybe should try that position with a bigger aircraft (=less zoom, or less cropping) on a less hazy day (is that a TNT A300 lining-up behind?  Smile )

I don't see the advantage of equalizing only the sky?

Yes I know, I'll definitely try that angle out again in the winter. As for the bigger planes that's the problem in BRU  Wink I'll need to be extremly lucky to get a 747 at the right time in order to have the sun at the right place.

Behind this TUI is a TNT 737 taking off (this one: http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/big/ready/OO-TNF_03.jpg) That morning it was one charter after the other TNT 737, TUI 737, Thomas Cook A320's.....

But reading all replies I suppose I'll keep both pictures for my personal collection as they will show some inevitable flaws. At least I don't think I can correct them with my limited PS skills....

I agree with Florian's comments. Looks heathazed and lacks detail. Nice shot but try it again sometime.

Peter,
Try it, it really does show them up.
My workflow invloves selecting the sky and then selecting the inverse before I sharpen, ie I do not sharpen the sky. It is no effort to simply equalise the sky as part of the flow and the dust spots really do show up. The equalising is simply based on the sky which does seem to exaggerate the dust. Dust spots have to be VERY bad to show up on anything other than even toned areas.
