Hi there guys!

I've been fortunate enough to purchase a 15.4" Apple Macbook Pro. I've bought a protective padded skin for it, I just need a larger bag to accompany it along with my camera gear.

I've currently got a Lowepro Mini Trekker AW which is by no means sufficient, IMO. So I'm looking to replace it. Anyone got any ideas/tips for this one?

Also, I'm looking for an everyday bag that I can use to transport it to and from work when I want to. I cycle to work so I need something reltavely stable for the Mac plus a few odd bits, like my lunchbox!  Wink

The measurements for the padded skin I have are 37.5cm x 24.3cm x 2.59 cm.

Many thanks, I look forward to some input.

Best Regards,
Justin Wood  Smile

I have the Lowepro Computrekker Plus, which has a padded compartment for the laptop and is much larger than the minitrekker. Highly recommend it.

Hi Justin,

I've got the Computrekker AW. It's fine for the laptop, two bodies and 3 lenses plus other bits and bobs but I'm not sure if the old lunchbox would fit in. In fact I'm certain it won't!!

John

I just bought a quiksilver rucksack from australia which i use to carry my 15.2" Powerbook, 1dii/70-200LIS/24-105F4LIS and 550ex as well as other stuff like ipod/psp/bose headphones. Works well, good capacity, compfy and it isnt a camera bag so no one tries to rob you! lol

I dont really bother with camera bags any more, more hassle than what they are worth.

I shot 9/11 ceremonies and events in NYC yesterday and worked out of a small laptop shoulder bag that had my powerbook, card reader, 1dii, 1vhs, 2 550's, 100-400, 24-105, 15mm and other stuff like battereis, cards, flash cords, stofen etc. Was so much easier to use a bag that wasnt a camera bag!

My collection of camera bags will get used a lot less now!

Chris

p.s I have a crumpler sleeve and an incase sleeve for my laptop and i found most lowepro/crumpler bags that say they will hold a 15" laptop, wont hold one with either of the sleeves i have! BEar that in mind while buying, you will want a bag designed for a 17" one if you are gonna use sleeve.

I use the Lowepro Computrekker plus AW as well. I've dragged that bag all over the planet and it's never let me down. I highly recommend it.

What Quicksilver bag was it you got in Oz? I'd be interested in looking at it.

Cheers for all your help so far, I'm sitting eagerly waiting for my Mac to arrive!  Sad

I have a Lowepro Computrekker AW, and my Acer 15.4" screen laptop just fit's into the laptop carry section with no room to spare at the top corners of the laptop when zipping the bag shut. I don't think I would be able to zip it shut with the laptop in one of the foam padded sleeves. There is a compartment on the front of the bag where I was able to store a small sandwich box - 4 slice of bread size, a 1.5ltr bottle of water and 3 cans of soft drink.

I use a Crumpler - "Brians Hot Tub". Its very spacious and allows up to a 17inch Laptop. Fits at least 3 bodies (D2hs, D2x,D2xs), lenses (70-200 2.8 VR 17-55 2.8 10.5 2.8) etc, flashes (4 SB800 with Commander) etc. Quite handy that you can change the config of the bag if needed. The zip is against your back to open the main part of the bag up, so no pick pocketing  Smile. You can fit a Monopod and Tripod in the side as long as it isn't huge, pretty secure aswell.

Ive not struggled with space so far  Smile. If you want to try it for size i got mine from Fixations in London.

Cheers

Ben

Computrekker AW works for me. It's best if you have a try wit the laptop in a shop with camera bags to see how it fits.

I have a Crumpler Karachi Outpost, which is very spacious. I am very happy with the build quality of this bag, and it's very premium. It is great for trips where you want to carry on the laptop and camera gear (it really doesn't fit under airline seats, though!). It is not all that convenient for everyday camera use, mainly because you have to open the back where the laptop goes to get to the gear. However, if you just want your camera with you just in case, it works alright. You can also remove the laptop sleeve altogether.

Yup, can't wait to get it!  Smile

I figured it was the best match for me. I didn't want something that said "Camera and Laptop in here", I wanted it to look quite trendy, I wanted more than enough room for all of my stuff at the same time!!

Thanks for all the help everyone!

Me, I carry as little gear as possible when travelling.

Recently spent two weeks abroad with just a tiny point-and-shoot (Canon Ixus 800).

Got some great shots - and uploaded some of them successfully.

When I carry a DLSR, I just bring one lens, a 18-200mm. Have successfully uploaded dozens of shots taken with that combo.

I only use my 80-400mm when I am at the local airport, or one within driving distance.

Works fine for me!

Question for the Computrekker Plus AW owners: did you have any problems in taking this backpack as carry-on luggage?

Bet it was cheaper than the Crumpler bag!  Wink

Quiksilver cars are pretty cheap, they are only like £1500 more when talking about the pug 206.
