Hello all,

I am looking for opinions on this photo: http://myaviation.net/?pid=00836610. I have had it rejected before, but tried to adjust some of the settings to hopefully improve it. Please let me know what I might need to do to correct things. One thing to keep in mind is that the picture was taken on a very cloudy day.

Thanks

I think it stands a fair chance if processed properly and sized @ 1024 wide.

Here is the original prior to the first rejection: http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/rejections/big/20060820_VFA-122-F-18F-1-_DSC_0543.jpg

Of course you can see it has been leveled and centered.

Louis

You could use some extra CW rotation, and it´s definitely not centered yet, too low in the frame and too much space to the left of the picture. You almost cut the wing on the right near the border, too.

Try to start with that, then we´ll discuss the quality issues.

Cheers!

Sorry I meant to take that out of the post. That was the way the picture was before it was leveled and centered. The link in the original post shows it leveled and centered.

Why was it rejected?

If reasons were only level and center then I'd say you have a pretty good shot!

Hangar,

This is how the rejections went:

    1st time: Info/Centered/Level

    • Left the registration, code, and CN blank
    • You can see it was not centered or level

    2nd time: Info/Grainy

    • Only info I left out was the cn data. From other pictures on the site, you dont need to have the cn data for fighters.
    • To me it might look grainy, but that is because it is a cloudy day and the fighter is in a dirty paint scheme. Navy fighters are not nice and shiny like airliners.

Ok thanks....well,

Looking at the picture as it is in the link off your first post, it looks pretty darn good....but, having had lots of those types of shots rejected myself, I know that pictures taken on overcast days where the light etc just isn't great will always be borderline, and they do always appear a bit more "grainy" than brighter pictures. If anything, perhaps its still a little bit soft (just a bit), but be careful not to oversharpen....good luck

PS I'm an Avsfan myself, having lived in Fort Collins for some time (not any more)....  Smile

I prefer the second one (the brighter one). Go for it. Lately the wait times seem much faster  Smile

Still the crop isn't the best IMHO. Either have the whole aircraft - with the wings wholly visible, or a tighter crop.

I agree with Codeshare, I would also try a tighter crop.
It's a nice shot but for some reason it doesn't feel right. I htink with a tighter crop the focus will be more on the beautiful F18.

Good luck!

Louis, I've been so free to edit/crop your photo, hope you don't mind.

What do you think of this:
http://www.filipowicz.com/ID00836610.jpg

I think with the original you should be able to get more grain/noise out.

That's what I mean Sfilipowicz  Smile I'd go for an even more tighter crop.

The reason I did the original crop was because the picture was taken with the left wingtip (rightside) slightly out of the picture. I cropped the leftside (right wingtip) just slightly to try and match it. I would have to say that your crop seems to look pretty good.

Thanks so far for the help and opinions.
