Garry, I have spent many months working in Doha. I can just about guarantee you will not be given permission for photography.
I managed to find a few spots to take some half-decent shots. The following were taken from a piece of waste land next to the Doha club:
Unfortunately that spot is now gone as there is a building development there. Later in the morning, if they are landing over the bay (rare), you can get shots from public places along Cornich. Try near the museum roundabout (I never had any problems here):
If you have a car and they are landing from the south (most common), you need to venture further out. There's not a lot, but you can find a secluded road to the east of the approach (the problem is that you are very exposed, parked in the middle of nowhere!):
The two biggest problems at DOH are:
1 - photography is not allowed because the QAF has a base at the airport
2 - it's a very boring airport unless you really like QR!

Quoting Garry (Reply 3): I've written to the airport to ask if I can obtain official permission so I'll see what comes of that.
Good, I hope you get lucky.
It's not impossible at all. I've spent 7 days in a row on the ramp in DOH.
You just have to have the right reason, or get to the right person.... as usual.. and be patient!

Quoting Garry (Reply 7): Hope you don't mind me asking but did you get access due to the benefits of work or did you know a friend of a friend?
This time it was while shooting with Qatar Airways, but with all the turns in and out of the permission office.... The right letter will get you access.
You just have to get the right person in a good mood and have a lot of patience. I was lucky.
Quoting INNflight (Reply 9): great to see your site is online and operational finally
Thanks Flo!
It's a start...
