I agree with the reject, because at the time of shooting, it was indeed getting darker (only a couple rays of late afternoon sunshine were shining through the trees). I have a similar one already in the database (from another angle), but I like this angle as well (that was my reasoning for trying to get this in as well, besides the fact that it is preserved and that there are only a few in the database with this registration)
Can it be saved? I don't know what to do now (i.e. how to improve?). Is it allowed to make it a little bit lighter (although it was not really that way when I took the shot), or is that called "bad manipulation"? I also think that there is a risk to make it more grainy, if I try to lighten it...

Nice crop! I'd lighten the shadows, either with the curves in Photoshop or with the Shadows/Highlights tool (if your version has it). Then, I'd go into Levels and shift the Input Level to 1.10 or even 1.15.

Try working out with the curves. I can´t say about the shadow/highlights tool because I don´t use it that much myself.
Another comment here: the pic gives me the impression of leaning to the left (CCW), isn´t it? I´ve compared the symmetry and apparently it is correctly level, but I though there was a badlevel problem, on my first look at it, when the pic was opened. I just wanted to tell you in case you see it, so as to improve the picture.
Anyway, good luck with it.

PS: Although I always check for horizontal/vertical correctness, I had the same thoughts about this shot that it was leaning a bit CCW... I will have a second go at it while doing the re-edit.

Is it possible that the pic is unlevel? The a/c is leaning to the left. I don´t know if it´s due to a slope on the runway or any reason besides the edit.
Maybe it´s just my eyes misleading me, but just check it out before you upload it.

You're right, the aircraft is definitely not level. I believed the taxiway not to be level in this spot, and choose to level the false horizon between the yellow lines in the background.
However, I now see that the wings of the second and third aircraft are unlevel, too. So, though it was not rejected for this, I should probably simply level the aircraft.
