I'm looking for some help ID'ing a photo that I took last summer. It was at Oshkosh, and it was an L-39 Albatross jet painted in camo green with a red star on the tail and the code number "119" by the nose. It was seen taking off in formation with "239" which I know to be one of the L-39s flown by The Hoppers team. They only use 4 jets in their show and I don't think this is one of them, since I have photos of all their jets.

I've searched this database and others but no one seems to have a photo of "119". I can't read the reg# under the horiz. stab. - it looks like an "NX" and 3 digits and 2 more letters. Has anyone photo'd or spotted an L-39 with a "119" on it?

Bruce,
The FAA's list of L-39s may help you pin it down:

Try this link and look under Jet Warbirds. It my main source for identifying warbirds since registrations tend to change with owners. It also helps with the construction number since the FAA registry often has the former miltary serial number for the c/n

wow, thanks Gary! That warbird registry is great. I have to bookmark that. The last letters looked like "TB" and sure enough, there is only one registration ending in "TB" on their L-39 list, and they have a photo of it that indeed shows the same "119" code and also the same sticker near the nose as my photo - its a picture of cartoon character Wile E. Coyote riding on an "Acme" bomb. A web search of N139TB shows no photos of it on any of the aviation photo databases.

The internet is great, isn't it!

Glad to be of help! That sight along with www.scramble.nl, MustangMustang, and some airline fleet lists really do a service making research easy.

Happy New Year to all. I hope Bruce and I get a chance to meet face to face in 2007.
