Hi all,
I tried putting this in the hobby forum but it didn't appear to get many bites...so I thought this might be more suitable...This upcomming summer I am hoping to plan a trip to Russia/Ukrain for some plane spotting/photography/ and the chance to ride on some russian aircraft...right now I have managed to find flights that would put us on the 767/TU-154/and TU134 I plan on taking some time to take photos hopefully at Domodedovo/Kiev/Sheryemtov (bad spelling) if anyone is interested please let me know. Thanks! -Josh

Yes myself and a couple of others are planning a trip to Russia back end of summer, although we've recently lost a very good contact over there. Obviously the more the merrier as Russia isn't really a place to be on your own - safety in numbers, as they say.

It's a long way off yet but if you're interested nearer the time drop me a message via the forums and we'll see what can be arranged.

Cheers,

Karl

I also proposed a visit to Kiev and then Chernobyl some months back, it was a last minute idea by me so I thought I'd ask if anybody else wished to come, and the general consensus was that many would like to this summer. In the end I went to HKG instead, so perhaps a combined trip could be arranged, the Tu134 flies the Kiev-Moscow/St Petersburg routes I think.

I would certainly be interested in something like this, keep us informed yes

If we can get a group there's more likelihood of us getting ramp access at some airfields - and less chance of us being arrested!

Yeah! Sounds good! I always wanted to visit russia/ukraine, but doing so is propably a bad idea, especially alone and without any language skills. But going in a group should ease up things

Well I had been talking to a few folks and the Chenobyle/Pripyat (bad spelling i think) tour can easily be arranged...they keep you on the road and they go in groups of 8 I believe. around 200.00usd per person but can be lowered if we get a total of 8 people....anyway I'll end up having to fly from JFK and make my way over to moscow..I tired the london route but besides being costly its just pointless timewise. Aeroflot offers some cheap flights on their TU134/154 so that would be pretty neat...I was thinking around mid September but with people in school and what not I'm not sure what people would like to do...in the meantime whoever has ideas let me know, I'm half russian although I can't speak it very well and would rather just carry a pocket language book to help. groups are important but if we stay at most of the tourist places and don't wander too far we should be in good shape. I've got a friend who lives in the Czech Rep. and she's willing to go and help us out along with another friend of hers...Keep me posted on what everyone would like to do and we can come up with a rough plan, our big goal I think is to keep it resonable price wise and not go overboard....hotels are cheap in Ukraine and decent in Moscow/St. Pburg.....THanks for the replies and feel free to message me with ideas/questions or what have you. Take care. -Josh

Might want to take a look at KLM and Ukraine International via AMS, they have increased flights and codeshare to Kiev and the prices seemed fairly reasonable when I checked last year.

I'm up for keeping it fairly low budget, as this means more money for flights Wink Time-wise then anytime during the summer is good for me as I'm at University with nice long terms.

Sadly that's a bit of a fake, the pictures of her bike are photo-shopped in, but the rest are amazing pictures.

Wow, a Russia meet sounds great.

It is a wonderful country and there are a lot of great things to see (airports aren't the nicest places though   ). I will be in Russia for sure later this year. If the meet is at this time I will meet up for sure if I'm somewhere close to you guys.

The most important for your meet is to be prepared well. Make sure to get the visa on time, book your hotel rooms in advance etc. It is not a place where you just go and then arrange things there...

One of the problems is that in Moscow and St. Petersburg hotels are usually rather expensive. However, flights are cheap, especially on the Moscow-St. Petersburg route. Aeroflot charges around 100 Euros retun (all inclusive) and you will be able to fly the 134 and 154.

Regards and good luck,
RJ100

Edit: By the way, I am sure there would be more interestred people if we would move it into non-aviation.

RJ100 thanks for the tip about the non-av forum....I think this is somethingthat might take form so hopefully everything will move in the right direction and that we can all communicate so we don't have any slip ups with the process. Since it appears you are in Russia or from the area you might be able to help us with some recommendations for what to see and do..I understand the airports aren't that great like you said but I don't plan on making that the reason for going so my (and maybe others) time there will be limited...in the mean time though flying the Russian built planes is pretty neat...Ill throw this thread into the non=av as well...thanks! -Josh
