I am in Atlanta right now for my cousin's wedding and I drove up since I had to bring my folks up from Orlando
I tried booking the Renaissance Hotel over a month ago, but it is all booked up as are most of the other hotels in the area due to some convention, so I ended up getting some hotel north of the Delta buildings so basically I can't see shit here.
Where is a good spot to go around the perimeter? They are using the 27s, 28s (whatever the westerlies are) arriving from the east. What is a good spot to go where cops leave you alone etc?
Sunday I believe we get an east wind so they will be using the 9s and 10s.

I have driven around ATL a few times looking for a good vantage point but have not found anything too good. The parking garage looks like it has potential but I haven't had time or weather to try it out.
I ended up going to Peachtree DeKalb airport on the northeast side of the city. It is primarily business traffic. There is a small bleacher area for airplane viewing where you can photograph above the fence line. There is also a park for kids. I was pleased to see a place where visitors are welcome and kids can catch the dream of flight.

The north and south upper parking decks work. The only problem is the rent-a-cops that come around. Most of them could give a shit about what you are doing, but there is always a freaking hero. I have gone hours without hassle and as soon as fifteen minutes too. Like Gary said KPDK is awesome. They are very friendly and that airport is the second busiest FBO in the country IIRC. Business jets all day and sometimes a military jet too. Have fun.
Unfortunately I didn't find the Sewage treatment plant entrance until 8pm, and it was definitely dark out then... but the way the planes were coming in, it would have been a great spot during the day.
I don't have time to go to Peachtree unfortunately. I am driving back to Orlando tomorrow. I probably only have about an hour, so I am heading to the south garage. It is going to be cold, so I will try to do most of my spotting through my car window with it open to not draw attention to myself and watch out for the rent a cops.

Went to the South garage. It was kind of a dark overcast yesterday morning in ATL and maybe about 45 degrees with rain on the way.
I looked at my pictures I took and a lot of the aircraft landing had a heat haze on them, which I thought was weird since it was 45 degrees. Then it occured to me that it may have been heat from the engines of aircraft queued up in two rows for departure.
No cop bothered me for the hour i was there, but I did see some rent a cop riding a bike with an orange flag as I was about to pay for parking. I figured he wasn't riding around since it was so cold. It is $2 an hour, which you can't beat since it is $8 after 2 hours at DTW when I spot there.
