I am not much of a photographer but I have a few pics that I took on my last trip that I think might make the grade once cleaned up a little in PS. I will put them up here for scrutiny when I get home. What I was wondering is does the rarity of subject matter help?

One snap in particular contains:

a Volga Dnepr An-124, an RA 757 and a QR A300 on apron in KTM. (There have been no new addtitions from KTM since late '05) and this combo of aircraft will likely not be seen again. Especially at KTM which rarely sees many widebodies at once.

Answer is yes.
Keep in mind that what you think might be rare it could not be for A.net usual visitors...Then other factors will betaken into consideration, especially quality. Best way to know, though, is to post picture here if you want a more definite opinion...

Rarity of individual aircraft (airframe/registration) helps quite a lot.
Rarity of location does not help very much, in my experience.
Rarity of combination of aircraft and location, I'm not sure.
Rarity of combination of aircraft normally isn't a consideration I'd say.

It helps a lot, but still the quality and compliance with the rules prevails.

So if I clean this up a little do you think it stands any chance of making the cut. I realize it's really busy but that could not be helped. This is my first ever attempt so I'm looking for as much criticism and help as possible.

I'd say that this is too cluttered and the aircraft in themselves are not rare enough to warrant inclusion for their combination. And you'd probably get MOTIV for cutting the A300 in half as well as the stairs, vehicles, etc. Of historical interest, perhaps, but a.net isn't that sort of archive.
