So, after months of waiting, I had just about given up... This aircraft will not look like this for much longer, so yesterday when I got the call from a coworker giving me the heads up, I rushed to work 2 hours early so I could FINALLY catch this bird. Unfortunately, the weather was a bit challenging with a mix of sun and clouds. Every time I have an opportunity to catch something I have been wanting to catch REALLY bad, I get the same weather conditions...same thing happened when the JAL 747 was here last year...and I couldn't get any of those to make the grade. So I need some help here.

Here are three shots. If possible, I would like to upload two...one on the ground, the other of it in the air. Is this possible without a double rejection?

Here are the two I would like to try....

Now, that first one is obviously backlit. So why not wait until it pushed from the gate so I could get it from a better angle? Well, I did, but this is what happened...a cloud moved in front of the sun...

I am having a hard time with this one. It doesn't seem right to me. What do you think? Any advice on how to edit it? Would this stand a better chance than the backlit shot?

Advice, comments regarding any or all of these shots? Thanks guys!

The first 2 are backlit so dont think chances are high on them,3rd one seems okay.

Apart from the first one that is backlit, I see all of them being a bit blurry/soft. Probably you have best chances with the second one, re-editing it.

Ciao

The in-flight shot is the best of the three. The others are backlit.

I know they are backlit. That is what is frustrating. It was out of my control. But as far as I know, backlit is not an automatic rejection. If it is done just right, a backlit shot can stand a chance...or so I hear.

Also this is still rare. There is only a handful of pics of this bird in the db. Does that make a difference?

Yes it probably makes you happy getting this shot of Southwest aircraft and one to add to your own collection but not all shots that seem unique or rare to you will make the A.net Database because of various issues like these contain.

Probably only advantage that trying one of those shots thats backlit is their is only 6 shots on if in database at present.

Please, I know this. That's exactly why I expressed frustration. And that is why I brought them to the forum. If ANYTHING can be done to these to get them in, I would be especially happy.

The whole getting into detail about finally getting a chance to see it was not to add weight to why I think these shots should be accepted just because it's rare. If you follow threads about Southwest in the Civ Av forum, you probably know that I constantly talk about the fact that SAN seems to be the last place new/rare aircraft in the fleet visit. You would think working at an airport 5+ days a week would give you a good chance to catch a glimpse of an aircraft...that hasn't been the case for me.  Wink

Hello Ryan,

I don't think I can give you a lot of help with improving these images but if you're still considering which ones to upload, I'd go with IMG 2528b as your first choice and IMG 2477 as the second. I enjoy your images so perhaps you'd consider uploading to both a.net and myaviation so they wind up online if even rejected at a.net. Here's a question for you - Do you ever see Lone Star One at SAN? I don't think anyone from a.net has photographed that plane at SAN in a long, long time.

Regards,

Edward

Thanks Edward. Yeah, in fact I worked Lone Star One the other night. I'll make sure to catch a photograph the next time it comes in.  Smile

Also, to add on to what I was saying, this aircraft will not look like this much longer and for the time being is routed primarily to and from DAL. So, this may have been my only chance to catch it at SAN in these colors and without winglets. Heck, I thought I would never get a chance to see it like this...I thought it was supposed to get the SWA makeover last month.
